The Background

Styled by Pininfarina under the direction of Jason Castriota, the 599 GTB debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in February 2006. The bodywork features optimized aerodynamics with distinct sail panels flanking the rear window, directing and maximizing air flow to a linear rear nolder.
The name ‘599’ refers to the engine capacity of the glorious V12 with a total engine capacity of 5,999cc producing a mighty 612Bhp from 7,600rpm to 8,400rpm.
The 599 saw the use of an aluminium chassis for the first time in a Ferrari GT car, as opposed to the tubular steel chassis used in its predecessors. The new chassis results in more rigidity and contributes to the low dry weight of 1,690 kg as compared to its predecessor, the 575M. The 599 boasts a longer wheelbase than its predecessor and the fuel tank is positioned at the rear in a mid-mounted position for better weight distribution. Due to such measures, the 599 has a claimed power to weight ratio of 367 PS per tonne.
The 599 utilizes magnetorheological semi-active dampers along with its suspension coils. The dampers function by a liquid within the damper reservoir which when subject to magnetic field within the liquid chamber, changes its viscosity.  
This particular example also came equipped with superb carbon-ceramic brake rotors to aid braking under harsher conditions.

The History

The car was previously owned by a prominent member of the Ferrari owners club and has completed many UK and overseas Ferrari owners club meetings and trips, and was an attractive purchase for the current owner of just over one year due to its extensive service records from Stewart Rowden of Scuderia Ferrari and Stratstone. 
The 599 has always been garaged and kept on a battery maintenance charger to really preserve potential costly items.

-Invoice from Scuderia Ecosse at 21390 miles for paint refurbishment on sills due to stone chips.
-Invoice and stamp in service book from Scuderia Ecosse at 33876 miles. Additional work included stripping brake system to clean and lubricate.
-Invoice and stamp in service book from Scuderia Ecosse at 42474 miles.
-Invoice from Scuderia Ecosse to strip front brakes and replace front brake pads, pins and fluid.
-Invoice from Scuderia Ecosse to replace MAP sensor.
-Invoice and stamp in service book from Scuderia Ecosse at 45800 miles. Additional work included the replacement of F1 shift oil and wheel bearing. During this service a report was carried out on the brakes and the following was reported…..Front pads 10mm -ok…..Rear pads 10mm….ok…..Handbrake 5mm….ok…..Front disks 36mm…..ok…..Rear discs 32mm…..ok.
As you can see the history has been well documented leaving no doubt this is a properly maintained Ferrari.

The Interior

First thing you see when you open the gleaming Rosso Corsa door is the quilted leather over-mats specially made for the car finished in red stitching to match the seats and in near perfect condition.
Sit in the driver's seat and the vivid yellow rev counter sits dead center of the gauges with a redline of 8,500rpm and a bright orange needle. The billet aluminum red driving mode switch mounted on the lower right of the steering wheel is mated nicely with the similarly bright red Engine-Start button giving a real race-car feel. 
The steering wheel, seat trims, center console and other parts are adorned in real carbon fiber and are highly finished with a high gloss.
All the leather from the seats, parcel shelf, handbrake lever and center console are in fantastic condition showing little signs of use despite its 46,000 miles. 
The original tyre inflation kit and tool kit are also present and look unused.

The Exterior

This 599 looks exaptational in gleaming Rosso Corsa and has recently had the roof, A pillars, and side blades painted gloss black. So have the rear diffuser, tailgate badges and wing mirrors giving the car a fresh look that we think really suits it.
The brake calipers that were painted red as an option from factory stand out from behind the glossy and immaculate original, silver, 20” wheels shod in Pirelli P-Zero tyres.
We did notice some very minor marks here and there including a few stone chips to the front nose, but nothing out of the ordinary.
A quick look through the wheels showed us the brakes looked in good order, as were the Brembo calipers with little to no evidence of any paint peeling that is so often seen on painted brake calipers.

The Mechanics

The sound of a 5,999cc V12 starting up certainly is something to behold and this 599 was no exception. Starting a the touch of a button it idled and ran beautifully. It sounded as you would expect... glorious. 
Looking through the paperwork you can see all and any work that has been required has been completed using only the best quality parts. 
The last service report 500 miles ago indicated that the brakes were still in good order leaving nothing to worry about. Everything appeared to work as it should with no lights on the dashboard. Shifting through the gears as would be expected of this car. 
Untimely you couldn’t ask for better service history.

The Appeal

612bhp, a roaring V12 and timeless looks make this one appealing Italian beauty. Even 12 years on, not many cars produced now will come close to this 599. 

Hugely recognizable by car lovers and non car lovers, this car will be appreciated by all who see it and will ultimately be a perfect addition to anyone's collection or simply a brilliant weekend toy, and with the history this one has this makes it a very usable supercar.
