The Appeal
The goal of Triumph’s new cruiser was clear from the name. The longest, lowest bike that the firm had ever built was conceived to beat Harley at its own game and the name, America, signalled that intent.
By harking back to the firm’s ‘60s Thunderbird cruisers, it was far more than a clone of those iconic America bikes. Clever detailing like the wide forks, pullback handlebars and forward-set front pegs all made this Bonneville-based bike as stylish as it was relaxing and comfortable to ride.
The later bikes like this one got the bigger 865cc air cooled parallel twin, equipped with fuel injection and good for 61bhp. It is a rare UK-registered bike whose two keepers have kept mileage to just 16,000 miles. It looks great in its blue and white colour scheme with gold pinstriping.
The vendor tells us that it has been regularly maintained throughout its life and is in good working order. It will need a fresh MOT before it hits the road, but with no advisories and few miles since the last one, that should be straightforward.
