With its thumping 5.0-litre supercharged V8 and its sensational handling, the Jaguar XF R is a pretty special car at the best of times. But the XF R-S took it to the next level.
With 542bhp at its disposal, the £80k flagship of the XF range was sensationally fast, reaching 60mph from a standstill in just 4.4 seconds and with a top speed electronically limited to 186mph, all the while accompanied by a shrieking supercharged whistle. It’s a car that truly stirs the senses.
This Midnight Black example is a 2014 facelifted model, which means a more aggressive front end, restyled 20-inch alloy wheels and – more pertinently – an eight-speed automatic transmission and limited slip diff lifted from the Jaguar F-Type.

It may be a performance model but that doesn’t stop the XF R-S from enjoying the usual high-specification accoutrements found on a Jaguar saloon, so the cabin is supremely well-equipped. The multi-adjustable climate sports seats are both heated and cooled, there’s an extended leather package that covers the doors and dash as well as the seats, Alcantara headlining and a heated steering wheel, for example.
In-car entertainment, meanwhile, comes courtesy of an optionally upgraded Meridian surround-sound 16-speaker audio system.

Finished in stealthy Midnight Black and rolling on factory 20-inch alloy wheels, the XF R-S is a fine-looking car in completely standard, unmodified condition. It sports the optional rear boot spoiler, which is actively sought-after by XF R-S fans.
The exterior is in superb order, having been treated to a professional polish and detailing. There are no notable marks or damage other than very minor stone chips and the wheels are in superb order, complemented by bright red R-branded heavy duty brake callipers.

Under the bonnet is Jaguar’s homegrown 5.0-litre V8, coupled with an Eaton supercharger that boosts the power output to 542bhp.
The upshot is not only astounding performance – 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 186mph - but also an intoxicating soundtrack, the wail of the supercharger accompanied by a bass-led wuffling from the stainless steel sports exhaust system. It’s both addictive and exciting.
Being a facelift car, this one also has the added advantage of the limited slip e-diff carried over from the F-Type sports coupé, as well as an eight-speed automatic transmission instead of the earlier model’s six-speeder.
Everything appears to be in fine mechanical order, while the car has a full and up-to-date Jaguar digital service history.

With its incredible performance and striking looks, the XF R-S is an instant modern classic as well as one of the most engaging and responsive sports saloons that money can buy.
