The Background 

This is the bike that Honda built in the late 1970’s to compete in the fast growing Superbike category that at the time was dominated by Kawasaki. The Honda engineers went to town on the CBX, choosing a six-cylinder 1047cc across-the-frame motor producing a whopping 105 BHP at peak revs of 9000rpm. 

Top speed was claimed at over 130 MPH and there was a massive amount of torque available throughout the rev-range. At the time of its launch it was the fastest, and most powerful production motorcycle available.
The Honda CBX 1000 was one of the finest machines of its generation with an endearing quality that still holds true today.

The History 

Originally a US bike with approximately 3 previous owners it was imported to the UK in 2015, being registered with the DVLA in 2016, since which time it has had 3 UK owners, one of which was the original importer, and has only done around 1,200 miles on UK roads.
There are a couple of bits on the bike that aren’t original, the shocks and the alternator have been changed, but the originals have been kept and will be supplied with the bike if the new owner is looking for 100% originality.
Very little has been done to the bike as it was bought pretty much as it is today, being used sparingly on high days and holidays.

The Paperwork 

The V5c is present and the last MOT expired in September 2021. There are a couple of receipts for the new shock absorbers and the importation certificate is also present.
The bike has a Tracker fitted which will be available for the new owner to take on the subscription if required and the bike has a full set of tools and an owner’s manual stored beneath the seat. 
There is one key and the bike comes with a battery conditioner and trickle charger.

The Condition 

Overall the bike presents really well and looks to be in very nice original condition with only the odd light scratch here and there and signs of use and wear around the switchgear. 
It’s not in showroom condition, but some light restoration work here and there could easily bring it up to that standard if so required. The original black paintwork is still really good but does have a few swirl marks and small light scratches and a very small ding that is hardly noticeable in the petrol tank. 
The chrome is still holding up well, showing some slight aging in places and the original exhaust pipes, although pitting a bit at the manifold, are in nice condition overall, along with pretty much all the fittings and paintwork to be found on the bike. 
The original warning stickers have all survived really well and there is some light corrosion on the alloy surfaces but nothing to extreme and should be easy enough to clean up and polish.
The tyres and wheels are all in great shape and all the foot rubbers and levers are nice and clean and straight.

The Mechanics 

There is no service history but as it’s not been restored you can see that it’s obviously been well cared for throughout its life. The bike starts and runs well, but the current owner recommends a full service and getting the six Keihin carburetors tuned and balanced to get the best out of the bike.
A fork brace has been added rather sensibly at some time in the past to aid front-end strength and rigidity and the alternator has also been upgraded. The original shock absorbers were becoming a bit worn out so were replaced by a suitable pair of Hagon shocks but otherwise the bike is all-original and in great all round shape.

The Appeal 

The Honda CBX is an awesome feat of design and engineering excellence from over 40 years ago that put Honda firmly back on top in the Superbike class.
The 1,045cc 6-cylinder engine with its double overhead camshafts and six in-line carbs is a work of art and genius in itself and you won’t find many examples around in such nice original condition these days. 

They have become very desirable amongst collectors as an iconic motorbike from a time when it was all about brute power and flat out performance.
