There’s something about the Italian language that makes even the most ordinary of phrases sound romantic.
Take the Maserati Quattroporte, for example. Deliver the words with the right passion and intonation and what you get is a flamboyant, rather vocal declaration of the words “four doors”. It doesn’t have the same ring to it in English, does it? But then nor does “Ferrari”, the literal translation of the family name worn by the world’s most famous supercars is “Smith”.
What we have here, though, is a Quattroporte with a Ferrari engine (not a four-door with a Smith engine, as we don’t want to lose the romance).
Introduced in 2003, Maserati’s fifth-generation saloon was based on the all-new M139 platform and shared it V8 powertrain with the Ferrari F430, equipped with a semi-automatic DuoSelect gearbox as standard.

For the kind of money the Quattroporte will sell for, you could get yourself behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz, Lexus or Jaguar of similar dimensions. They’re all lovely cars, but the Maserati is by far and away the one with the most soul, as well as a rarity, a talking point and a car that delivers so much more than just transport.
It’s a leftfield choice but also a fabulous one – the car enthusiast’s executive saloon, if you will – and this one is a genuine car in good overall condition.
