This Vermillion Red Triumph Spitfire 1500 was imported from southern California. The car has been off the road for many years and needs to be restored.
Having survived in a dry climate area, the body is mostly solid. It does show rust perforation in the floor boards, battery box, lower rear fender doglegs and boot floor. Next to a fair bit of metal work, the body needs some panel beating, to get rid of the dents. Most noticeably dented areas are the bonnet and right rear fender.
The chassis frame is solid, with the exception of a small section on the left rear beam. Here, the bottom metal shows rust perforation.
Inside the Spitfire's cockpit, it is a sorry mess. Hence, the interior will need to be completely renovated. The car comes with a soft top and factory hard top. The hood needs to be replaced and the hard top should be restored. With a few extra spares, this Spitfire is mostly complete, though it does not have a spare wheel. One ignition key only.
Mechanically, the Spitfire would need at least a partial rebuild and thorough recommissioning. The engine turns by hand and the gearshifting mechanism feels tight. 48. 711 mls on the odometre.
This neglected but unmolested Spitfire is an excellent entry-level classic to completely restore.
