Ford Popular – Lovely Original Car/ Original Reg
When production of the older Ford Anglia and Ford Prefect ceased in 1953 the Popular was developed by Ford as a budget alternative. The ‘Pop’ was the cheapest new car available to the British public and sales were strong. The basic saloon had the 1172cc side-valve engine, three speed gearbox, single vacuum-powered wiper, no heater, vinyl trim, minimal chrome and the Bakelite dash of the Anglia was replaced by a flat steel panel.
Once an everyday sight our 1956 example is a remarkable survivor, owned by a previous keeper for over 31 years and still remains incredibly original today.
Milestones have sold this Popular on three previous occasions, and we were delighted when the last owner recently part-exchanged her for our Morris MO
The black paint work has an exceptional finish with just the slight blemish commensurate with a respray that was completed many years ago. Underneath there is a very light layer of weather protection that is not hiding anything sinister – she is a lovely old girl.
Mechanically the Ford is still running her 6-volt electrics and starts/ drives very nicely with a sweet running engine that benefits from electronic ignition and a rebuilt starter motor. The clutch & gear changes are smooth with good brakes (for a 1956 Ford Popular).
The interior is remarkable with good carpets, headlining, door cards and original seat covers with lovely bakelite dashboard.
The car retains her original Southend registration and comes with a good history file that includes the original RF60 logbook, history from DVLA, lots of old MOT’s, invoices, pictures etc.
Milestones are delighted to bring this remarkable little car to market for a forth time. Ready to use and enjoy she will provide years of pleasure to the lucky new owners.
