The Appeal
The Cresta served as Vauxhall’s flagship passenger car between 1954 and 1972, and sitting above the standard range was the exceptionally rare Cresta Radford. Produced by renowned coachbuilder Harold Radford, it was a world away from the more familiar Vauxhall saloons of the period, featuring a host of luxury upgrades including a West of England cloth headlining, fine leather upholstery, individually reclining front seats complete with armrests and height adjustment, lambswool carpeting, a radio with electric aerial, adjustable reading lamps, and rear picnic tables – a specification that would not have looked out of place among far more prestigious marques.
Further distinguishing features included a redesigned grille with quad headlights and fog lamps, a rear window demister, a second glovebox incorporated into the rear armrest, and door warning lights.
Just 25 Cresta Radfords are understood to have been produced, with 802 NPX believed to be the only surviving example. Equipped with the larger 3.3-litre engine and said to have been cosmetically restored, it is a highly unusual and notably luxurious Vauxhall that should attract considerable interest at shows and marque events.
