Purposeful canary yellow with black bonnet and decals
Regularly serviced by US specialist since vendor bought it in 2020
‘Clean-look’ 1970 model in good condition
Factory-correct 4.8L 302CI V8 engine
The Appeal
For the 1970 model year, Ford moved the Mustang further into the muscle car arena, giving the car a cleaner look with a single pair of headlights. The warbly 302CI V8 remained, imbuing the original Pony car with over 201bhp.
The arrival of the new decade was the high point of the muscle car era before legislation whittled down power outputs, and this canary-yellow fastback recalls why. It has a level of purpose and poise that the earlier Mustangs often miss, helped along by some deft black decals and bonnet paint. The eagle-eyed will also spot a small rear spoiler, which, with the period ‘Rostyle’ chromed rims, makes this a nicely detailed car.
It arrived in the UK in 2014 and was with the current keeper in 2020. We’re told that it has been regularly serviced by a US car specialist in recent years. Helpful factory documents and a VIN check confirm it left the Metuchen, NJ works with the 4.8L 302CI V8, as it does now. It retains the high-back black vinyl seats that were fitted as standard on ‘70 Mustangs.
In an era when petrol power is under threat, here’s a chance to revisit its high-water mark with one of the greatest four-wheeled proponents of fossil fuels.
The vendor says:
“Car is running and fully working. Starts from cold on the 3rd turnover, comfortable high back seats (I'm 6'3"), great fun driving and loves to be thrown around.”
