The Appeal
The E53-generation BMW X5 became SUV genesis for the German brand in the late 1990s. As the brand’s first foray into the luxury 4x4 market, it’s the model that kick-started the entire X-badged line-up of high-riding models for the carmaker. Its initial design was penned by legendary car designer Frank Stephenson, as BMW sought to build a rival to models like the Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes ML-Class.
This sparingly used example represents a rare opportunity to own a truly exceptional example of the first generation of BMW’s original luxury Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV). First registered in November 2000, this X5 4.4i is a time-warp vehicle that has covered a little over 9,000 miles in its 25-year life.
