Description
Harley Davidson Duo Glide Panhead
Year 1962 with original Panhead engine and casings.
Same owner since 2005.
Complete rebuilt done, over several years, by the professional specialist Workshop WW Lauenau „First Connection“ in Germany which was finished in 2016.
The bike was completely disassembled.
The frame was inspected and sandblasted, brought to the Netherlands to be X-Rayed. One small defect was found and professionaly repaired. Back in Germany the frame was primed and matt Black spray coated.
The front end completely disassambled and rebuild. New forktubes, bearings, brake, wiring and switches, wider handlebar with white grips. Headlight with H4 lights (E Typed)
All electrics redone, now 12 volts, new wiring and includes a cloth wire harness, alternator rebuild with new bearings and rotor.
The rear end.
New wheel bearings, suspension dissambled and any wear or tear replaced, swinging arm re-aligned and new bearings. Rear brake and hydraulics new, sprockets and secondary chain new.
The engine.
Original 1962 with original crankcases, matching numbers. Completely dissambled, inspected, measured and if needed replaced/ rebuild. Heads rebuild on unleaded fuel, new valves, seats, guides, springs, rocker bearings etc. Rockercovers new, all Gaskets new. Cilinders honed and coated, Pistons new rings. Any engine part out or near the max. tolerance was replaced and or refurbished.
S&S Heavy duty oil pump new oil lines and filters. Oiltank replaced. Mallory fully electronic ignition with twin fire coil.
The primary drive converted to belt with keeping the original primary case, clutch assembly converted to dry clutch and with the famous „mouse trap“. Primary case is black.
The carburator is the original Linkert M75B, completely rebuild with orginal engraved air filter cover.
The exhaust 2 in 1 with an aftermarket fishtail muffler.
The transmission.
The original 1962 transmission has been completely rebuilt and is not yet installed. Current transmission is a Chrome Horse 4 speed, handbuilt and purchased new from the USA, foot shift left side. Chrome horse does not exist anymore, the transmissions they built used all high end components and machined casings. Obviously the original transmission is included in the sale.
Seat spring post is with heavy duty springs and will easily support 2 persons.
Paint is based on the original 1962 Harley Davidson Duo Glide tank paneling design in HiFi Red.
Any chrome or base metal has been left original, so there is pitting on the rims, crash guards, headlight housing etc. This was desired, I did not want a museum piece but a mechanical sound bike which shows some of her age.
The condition of the bike is very good, however not original, as can be seen on the pictures. Since the restoration the bike has covered about 5000 km.
Current seat is a leather duo seat, as shown in the pictures, spring post mounted and with extra springs. So 2 persons are comfortably seated.
Aftermarket leather bags, in 60's style.
Aftermarket clear windshield in 60's style.
Additional items coming with the bike.
Single, original 1962 leather seat.
Duo Seat frame mounted, original Mustang aftermarket.
Several foot pegs, depending which seat one likes to install.
Aftermarket chrome primary outer case with the diamond bezel.
Original handlebars, which would need restoration.
Complete option for a footclutch and hand gear switch police style. (Left chrome new foot clutch and left side frame mounted gear switch lever) Including all the levers and small parts.
And of course the original restored 1960 gear box.
Some bits and bobs.
Serviced each year, new oil and filters.
In 2021 the rear brake has been machined and overhauled. New battery (AGM) and rear tire.
The workshop ww-lauenau Germany has a full restoration description of their website, the bike was also featured on the website WW-AG Harley Davidson parts.
It is recommended to view the bike, free rides are not allowed, unless € 1000.- is paid upfront. When the bike is bought this will be deducted from the purchase price. (Sorry I had too many wild stories and folks interested in a free ride on a classic bike). The bike is sold as is with no warranty and will not be taken back or refunded. This is a private sale. I bought the bike in 2004, with "only" 7000 real miles on the clock. (now 10, 000 miles) The bike was however in a strange mint greenish, 1958 color scheme. Mechanically the important parts were solid. During the years untill I decided that the time had come for the full restoration the bike just stood in the entrance of my house. Starting 2014 the restoration, by the professional workshop First Connection, it became very clear that the bike needed some real attention and as such it was decided to go the full "monty". A complete restoration was undertaken, however to be based on sound mechanics and not so much original museum quality. Rideable was the word. The restoration of the bike was even on the home page of WW AG. And can still be viewed on the home page of the workshop WW Lauenau in Germany.
After the restoration the bike has seen (3000 miles) 5000 km, and oild change - inspection every year. Passed every MOT without any hassle (TUEV) since. Requires a new MOT (TUEV) in June 2023.
