Background
I have owned the car since 2011, and was dry stored between 2013 and the end of last year when it had a refresh. I planned on never selling the car as I doubt theirs many left out there in this sort of condition, but working away / house move etc mean it seems the right time to let someone else enjoy it.
After being in storage under covers / garaged for years the car had a 2k recommissioning service where numerous things were changed including; Full service with belts, all filters, fluids, fuel pump, starter motor, alternator, water pump bearings, battery, rear suspension brushes, brackets etc. Some of this wasn’t needed but wanted it to be right. It was then MOT’d (although not required as 40 years old).
After having the work done, the car was driven to the retro rides show on the Late brake Show stand, and then put back into the garage.
History and condition
Lots of history with the car, All original service books, manuals, old MOT’s dating right back to the 80’s. Original sales brochures, price lists etc. Lots of receipts for work carried out of the years including, servicing, new targa roof, bushes all in a ring binder.
The car has won numerous shows / concours events in the past, which include ‘best in show’, and ‘best in class’ at BMW owners club events, Autoglym awards with the trophies shown on the photos. The cars done a couple of thousand miles in the past 20 years and is a time warp car!
Been in the rain once in my ownership. Waxoiled and great condition underside. Has had sills in the past and a small repair to a jacking point. Resprayed around 2002 and still excellent condition. Roof fabric is immaculate – no rips, leaks or tears. Leather cover for the targa is like brand new. Dashboard in great condition, as is the rest of the interior.
Original etched glass all around including the windscreen (minus the drivers side window).
Spax adjustable suspension, super rare (and valuable) Momo / Alpina steering wheel. 16inch alloys which are 7. 5’s on the front and 9’s on the back. Vintage Carillo fog lights and headlight wipers.
All chrome and brightwork in great condition. Original hessian type mats and black mats in currently.
MOT exempt, ULEZ exempt, cheap classic insurance.
Private registration SPU 5W included in the sale.
Negatives
It’s a 40 year old car so will have some flaws!
Front tyres needed, due to age not wear. Anti roll bar or track rod end knocking on the front which needs replacing. The car doesn’t idle properly when cold, I think it’s just a sticking ICV, once theirs temperature there it idles perfectly. I’ll try and get this sorted this week.
If I was keeping the car, I’d also have new exhaust back boxes made to finish off the exterior look but that’s personal preference really.
In regards to bodywork – theirs a nick on the front arch where is caught, and since being in storage the paint on the bonnet has deteriorated slightly, no fading but can be described as some feint spiders webs under the paint. Not noticeable really but want to be honest.
Hopefully the photos give a good idea of the cars condition. Please have a look a similar prices of e30’s, 2002’s and e21’s in much worse condition and compare to this car.
