Description
1997 S90 3-litre 204bhp automatic saloon, in Nautic Blue pearlescent with cream leather interior.
138, 600 miles.
One previous owner, from new until 2018, then mine since then. I've done a little under 50, 000 miles in the car. The car still has its dealer sticker and number plates.
MOT until the end of November 2023, with no advisories.
In my ownership new front wishbones have been fitted, new front callipers, new brake pads all round, new handbrake shoes, and most recently a brand new Nissens radiator.
The car starts and drives with no issues.
The interior is pretty good, very clean, with a little of the characteristic Volvo door car wrinkling, but not excessive. The drivers seat is worn around the bolster, all the other seats are in superb condition.
The car is in very good condition:
* Beautiful wood-rimmed steering wheel in excellent condition
* Wood veneer to dashboard
* Glass electrically operated tilt and slide sunroof, with sun shade, all of which works fine.
* Original Volvo radio cassette player, with wiring for a CD changer in the boot.
* Original Volvo carpet overmats in excellent condition.
* Air conditioning which does run cool, but isn't as cold as it was last year. I'm tempted to say a recharge is probably all that's needed!
* Original alloy wheels, with good tyres, and an unmarked full size alloy spare.
* Electrically heated and adjustable mirrors.
* Heated front seats.
* Headlamp wash-wipe
* Front fog lights
* Automatic electric aerial
* Auto gearbox with Sport, Economy and Winter settings.
Externally the bodywork is pretty good and it polishes up well, bearing in mind that it is almost 27 years old.
The engine ticks over smoothly and drives effortlessly, the gearbox works as it should. There are no obvious fluid leaks and no untoward noises. The car came to me with a fully stamped service book, and I've changed the oil myself each year since then. The car uses no oil between changes.
I'm changing jobs soon, and will need a more modern diesel. If that wasn't the case this car would definitely not be up for sale!
* EDIT 16/ 5/ 23 - Picture of wear to driver's seat bolster is added. The Volvo S90 represents the end of an era, a big RWD Volvo, luxuriously appointed, superbly engineered, designed and built for comfort, reliability and longevity.
This car is the SE model, fitted with a straight-six 3-litre 24 valve engine and automatic gearbox. It's quick off the mark if you want it to be, particularly the mid-range acceleration. Essentially it's the 6-cylinder big brother to the 5-cylinder engines used so successfully by Volvo in the 850 and and S/ V/ C/ 70 series cars.
The fully independent multilink rear suspension makes the car surprisingly agile, adding to the overall driving experience. This particular car has standard rear shocks absorbers, not the more expensive Nivomats.
This car is a very usable "modern classic", I've found that service parts are easy to obtain, and that DIY maintenance is a very straightforward affair.
This car will suit the owner who appreciates old-school Volvo engineering quality, and is looking for an inexpensive practical classic that has scope for further improvement without breaking the bank.
As for MPG, I get around 25mpg in everyday use, and have topped 31mpg on a long journey.
