For sale is my 1999 Vauxhall Astra 2. 0 16V SRI 3 door finished in Flame Red.
I have owned the car since October 2022 with there being just 2 previous owners prior to my ownership. The vehicle was originally registered on 8th January 1999 and sold through Gathurst Vauxhall (now Evans Halshaw Vauxhall) in Wigan. I am selling due to reducing the number of cars in my collection. I originally bought this on account of me being a classic Vauxhall fan, the low mileage and immaculate condition of the Astra upon inspection.
The car has only covered 33, 488 miles which is very low indeed being 24 years old now. The condition is testament to being so sparingly used, with this Astra SRI being very nice and clean throughout both inside and out bar a few paint imperfections as to be expected for a Vauxhall of this vintage. It is also completely standard and unmodified right down to the original dealer supplied number plates which is very rare to see nowadays.
The V5 form, spare key, locking wheel nut, parcel shelf, spare wheel and handbook with radio code are all present and correct.
Mechanically, the car is spot on. The clutch has a healthy biting point, the close ratio 5 speed manual gearbox slots between the cogs sweetly, the brakes perform well with no juddering to speak of, the power assisted steering turns precisely and tracks straight and true while the engine pulls the car very swiftly with plenty of get up and go. The tyres fitted are matching 2020 year Mohawk branded all round with loads of tread left on all corners. 7 mm on both fronts and 9 mm on both rears.
Under the bonnet is the 2. 0 litre X20XEV ECOTEC petrol engine with multi point fuel injection developing 134BHP @5600rpm while the torque figure is 139lb ft @3400rpm. This a very accomplished power plant and will see the car achieve around 35 mpg in normal every day driving. Although there is no service book, the car has had received meticulous up keep especially during my ownership with the following work carried out with receipts to prove:
* New transponder chip fitted to spare key in November 2022
* New Timing Belt kit with water pump fitted in March 2023
* New throttle position sensor fitted in March 2023
* New crank shaft position sensor fitted in April 2023
* New breather pipe fitted in April 2023
* Engine oil and filter service carried out in May 2023.
* MOT carried out in May 2023 with no advisories present.
The interior is a nice place to sit with comfy, sports seats which adjust in all directions including the squab lengths in the front which is perfect on longer journeys while the rear bench has an arm rest with ski hatch. The specification is quite basic by today's standards but most of the essentials we have come to expect are present- CD player with wheel mounted controls, driver airbag, remote central locking, power assisted steering, electric windows, ABS, traction control, 16 inch alloy wheels and front fog lights.
Overall, this modern classic Astra SRI has proved to be a very enjoyable car to own and one which I have taken to car shows on numerous occasions on account of the fact that this is now a rare example of a late 90's sporting Vauxhall model. Ultimately, the GSI turbo was the flag ship hot hatch in the range but these SRI's are still a very entertaining steer with lowered, uprated Lotus tuned springs and dampers compared to a regular Astra whilst these also really look the part with the Irmscher rear spoiler and twin exhaust pipes on display.
I am asking £3, 995 which I feel is reasonable given the current market, condition and low mileage while also bearing in mind that this modern classic will steadily but surely climb in value over the coming years. You only need to look at the prices of other classic Vauxhall's to realise this is the case. One pristine white Nova GTE recently went for £18, 800 at auction.
I am currently located in a town called Nairn near the city of Inverness in the Highlands however I am willing to travel to prospect buyers subject to negotiation and geographical location. If the full price is met, I shall include a full tank of fuel as part of the sale.
