Description
A rare opportunity to own an original Willys cj2a jeep built July 1947 and still in complete running order. Never restored but carefully preserved in this extremely desirable barn find condition. This little Willys jeep wears every ding and dent with pride and every inch of original bodywork tells a story of 76 years History. Ive carefully been through brakes, steering, transmission and engine. All now in fully working order and the jeep has proved itself great fun and never let me down on trips and local chores. Any parts replaced have been kept with the jeep and the original body has been preserved with several coats of clear Penetrol. This drives out moisture from the metal and stops the bare metal surfaces from corroding. This vehicle has never been welded and all of the rust is just friendly surface corrosion and not penetrative rust. (remember it took 76 years to look this good!)
Built on 5th July 1947 and delivered in Picket grey with Harvard red wheels. This little workhorse spent its entire life in South Dakota and no doubt dealt with all types of farm chores and logging duties that were asked of it. Now here in the UK and fully road registered and ready for fun and adventures.
If you are looking at this listing.... and you like what you see..... its easier to fire specific questions at me rather than me waffle on about what's been done and the painstaking efforts to preserve the unique patina of a genuine 76 year old survivor.
pictures speak a thousand words.
plenty of scope to use as is.... Gradually improve or fully restore....(but its only original once)
feel free to ask questions via ebay message or phone or simply request more pictures / video
v5 in my name Tax and Mot exempt..... Ready for action
Thanks for looking. I wanted to preserve a piece of iconic motoring history, less expensive than a series 1 Land Rover and considerably rarer in the UK.
There are plenty of fully restored and gleaming examples of the virtually identical war time versions of the Willys jeep.... but the survivor barn find good looks of this little CJ2A are unique and so hard to find in totally original and unmolested form.
That's why every effort has been made to leave the character of this plucky Jeep as I found it.
If you are reading this advert you most likely know exactly what you are looking at..... but for those who are not familiar with the CJ2a here is a potted history...
Built between 1945 and 1949 the early jeeps shared production time with the military contract Willys MB jeeps, the civilian CJ2a jeeps shared almost all mechanical parts and bodywork with its military brother...... The obvious difference being the addition of an opening tailgate in the rear tub and flush mounted headlamps on the seven slat jeep grill.....
Powered by the same Go Devil flat head 4 cylinder engine and driven through a 3 speed gearbox with selectable 4 wheel drive and low ratio gears. The Cj2a jeep became the blue print for all future utility and 4 wheel drive vehicles..... including the iconic land rover.... which was released to the world in 1948
