I’m selling my beloved and well-cared for Jeep Cherokee XJ that I've spent thousands on in the last 18 months.
It has the 4. 0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine and is one of the later facelifted models (with airbags), but with the more robust and reliable 4. 0-litre unit before Jeep switched to the slightly less reliable 4. 0-litre engine (according to Phil Boocock at Hargreaves Jeep) – so it’s the best of both worlds!
I’ve spent a lot of cash on the car getting it into a state that would be acceptable for my wife to drive it, if not love it. Sadly that didn’t work…
The car was already pretty sound when I bought it, but I had a few slight dents and blemishes on the bodywork tidied up and have had extensive (and expensive) work carried out that includes:
• Old Man Emu 2” suspension lift kit fitted – looks lovely underneath
• Stainless Steel exhaust back section – sounds fruity, but not overbearing
• New radiator, water pump and thermostat
• New alternator
• New front discs and pads
• New front wheelbearings
• Full underseal
• New ignition barrel and replacement remote control sensors (two keys)
• Kenwood DMX5020DABS audio system with Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto and upgraded speakers – plus replacement dash surround to enable double DIN fitment (old surround and audio system will also be supplied)
• New windscreen
• New battery - still under warranty
I’ve had the car over two years and had it fully serviced twice in that time. As well as the minor bodywork repair, the car is totally rust-free – most of the above work was carried out by the brilliant Phil Boocock at Hargreaves Jeep, Keighley, West Yorkshire whose brief was to make it as nice to drive and reliable as possible – so it’s been thoroughly checked. As it was by RCBS 4x4 Specialist in Welwyn shortly after I bought it.
Phil removed and welded the only tiny bit of rust he could find in the wheelarch – and then undersealed the whole car. I have numerous pictures of the work carried out, plus receipts from me and the previous owner.
So generally, you won’t find a cleaner, nicer, more reliable car for the money.
As with all old cars, it’s not perfect – the rooflining is sagging, but I’ll either get that fixed or it will be reflected in the final price. Other than the Apple CarPlay connection being temperamental (somebody handier than me just needs to take the unit out and reconnect the USB cable) and a slight bit of laquer peel on the roof, that’s it – it’s a lovely Jeep that drives as good as it looks. And all the 4x4 gubbings work well. Definitely an appreciating asset.
I’ll miss it, but as you will see from the MoT history, I’m doing a few hundred miles a year in it so my wife is probably right.
