Unrestored, unmolested, highly original, very low mileage CBX1000.
Original purchase receipt included.
History:
First purchased on 5th September 1978, for 8800 Marks, from a dealership in Munich, Bavaria.
Following the death of the original owner, the bike was bought by a collector in N. Ireland, but never registered.
The bike was subsequently bought by me in April 2010. At this stage the odometer reading was 7902km (4939 miles). From the condition of the bike (including original tyres) I am 100% sure that this was genuine. I obtained UK registration for the bike on 7th May 2010.
Initial work:
The original owner had fitted ‘dropped’ bars. I replaced these with NOS bars, sourced from Argentina.
The alternator was rewound by Westcountry Windings.
I replaced the headlight with a NOS UK spec (Stanley 001-1815) unit
The front cam adjuster bolt thread had gone. This was rethreaded with a time sert.
The tyres were changed.
Subsequest work:
The starter motor was breaking down when hot. It could not be rewound, so a replacement ‘Tim's’ starter motor from the USA was fitted in 2016.
The clutch was modified with rubber inserts from the ‘Six Center’in Holland. I would describe this as a partially successful attempt to reduce clutch rattle.
The carburettors were overhauled and rebuilt by Steve Gosine in 2017. Not cheap, but the bike now idles smoothly and pulls cleanly from low revs.
At some stage I have replaced the HT coils.
Oil changes and servicing done by me.
Current condition:
Current odometer reading 16354Km (10, 221 miles)
Apart from the starter motor, this is a completely original and unrestored machine.
The bike rides and handles exactly as a CBX should. The engine and gearbox have never missed a beat in the 13 years of my ownership.
I suspect this bike has hardly ever seen rain... certainly only once during my ownership when I got caught in a brief shower.
I shall miss the 6 cylinder howl and turbine smoothness but, sadly, back and neck problems are bringing my biking years to a close.
