2008 Ducati 1098R Homologation Special

Offered for sale is a beautifully presented example of Ducati’s World Superbike 1098R Homologation Special finished in Rosso red. It is powered by a 1198cc 8 valve V-twin liquid cooled engine delivering 180bhp and 99lb-ft of torque to the rear wheel through a six-speed manual transmission. First registered new in Australia in 2008 the bike was imported to the UK in 2016 and held in a private collection since 2018. With 16, 936 recorded miles fully supported by a full service history the 1098R is fresh from a full service, MOT and road test at Ducati’s Main dealer in Plymouth, GT Motorcycles.

EQUIPMENT & FEATURES
The 1098R is fitted with a full eight-stage traction control system, as well as a fully adjustable TTX twin-tube Öhlins rear shock absorber and 43mm forks, Monobloc Brembo radial brake calipers, Marelli electronic fuel injection, a race ECU, forged light alloy Marchenisi wheels, a single-sided swingarm and full Termignoni carbon exhausts. The 1198cc engine has con rods and larger valves made of titanium, lightened crank, a dry multi-plate clutch, hardened rocker arms, magnesium camshaft covers, sand cast heads and lightened pistons. As well as altered diameter frame tubes, the 1098R gained a magnesium front subframe, aluminium rear subframe, carbon belly-pan, tank infills and front mudguard. To complete the package an on-board data logging system is fitted, as well as a MotoGP-replica digital dashboard and an uprated Ducati Performance seat. Its original owner’s manuals and spare key will be included, along with a Ducati Performance bike cover and CS Racing single swing arm paddock stand.

CONDITION
Viewing is highly recommended but please refer to the photo gallery to assess the condition. There is no known bodywork or frame damage (never recorded as written off or stolen in Australia or the UK) and the Rosso red paintwork is in great condition, only with some minor stone chips to the front end of the bike. There are no known mechanical or electrical faults and recently passed a full MOT and road test by the Ducati Main dealer in Plymouth, GT Motorcycles, on 21st June 2023 at 16, 931 miles.

SERVICE HISTORY
The 1098R has recently had a full service including timing belt, oil and filters with 15-50SYN-4 racing oil, brake fluid and coolant replacement, fuel pump rebuild, fork seals and fluid replacement and new 12v battery fitted, undertaken by the Ducati Main dealer in Plymouth, GT Motorcycles. Prior to this, scheduled maintenance has been carried out and fully recorded in the service history book pack.

SUMMARY
The most technologically advanced sports bike of its time, the 1098R brought Ducati’s formidable racing pedigree to the road, boasting a number of innovative features, exotic materials and a thrillingly powerful motorsport-derived engine. This beautifully presented example has been exceptionally well-preserved in a private collection since 2018, and whilst it would make a fantastic investment opportunity and a superb addition to another collection, it would perhaps be best enjoyed on the open road, with a full service and a fresh MOT it is ready to go where its next owner can experience its deeply impressive pace and involving handling for themselves.
