Descrizione
Here we have a very rare piece of UK automotive history - only just over 30 were sold. Ready for the summer is my always garaged 1992 Carisma Engineering 'Century', open 2-seater 1930's-style sports roadster - an evocation of the 1930's SS100 Jaguar - but without the cost and difficulty!
The chassis is a box-section steel ladder frame and the lovely BRG fibre glass body is bolted directly to the chassis. Very simple and easy to access and maintain. The V5 shows it registered as 'Make - Carisma Engineering'.
The steering, transmission, hubs, servo brakes and 4-cylinder 2 Ltr OHC engine are all Mk4 Ford Cortina - the engine/ gearbox were a refurbished unit. Rear suspension units are adjustable gas SPAX. The car has covered only 12000 miles since registration and has a valid MoT until 9/ 5/ 24 – no advisories - and a high-torque starter motor has recently been fitted. It has a 4-branch exhaust, carburation is a Weber twin-choke 38DGAS, ignition is electronic Lumenition and hoses and coolant have recently been replaced, along with a new Pipercross air filter.
It has full weather equipment – full hood and side-screens with wind deflectors – and a heater. The cockpit and boot are fully trimmed and finished, the dash is walnut veneer with a Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel and there is a small upholstered bench seat behind the 2 main seats ideal for small things(!). The bonnet is aluminium and on the rear is a stainless carrier (the period wicker hamper shown in the photos is included). Seats are deeply upholstered, adjustable and high-backed, and gauges include oil temperature and a clock. The spare is on the wing.
Externally it has huge period Lucas P80-style chromed headlamps and has been dressed like an SS100:
- radiator leaper mascot
- radiator 'SS/ 2 LITRE' enamelled badge like the original
- twin period-style horns + enamelled '100' badge on the cross-brace & like the original
- twin owls-eye rear lights like the original
- alloy rocker cover with Jaguar & SS motifs
- gear knob with SS motif
- Jaguar motif on the tail
The car comes with a Haynes Ford Cortina manual for the mechanicals and a Carisma manual for the chassis/ body/ electrics. In really nice condition – the bodywork especially is a real head-turner (see the pics) – and ready to go.
Reason for sale – advancing years and hip replacements!
PLEASE NOTE: preferred contact for offers and communications by email or phone.
Vehicle located in North Wiltshire and payment only through CHAPS (no cheques) and prior to releasing the car. As an ex- motorcyclist NOT Biker (that dates me!) I wanted the raw weather feeling of my Vincent and that meant 1930's sports car style. This car gives that in an affordable way with style!
