1994 E320 Estate
I purchased this car in June 2021 from Jesse Armstrong, screenwriter of Succesion and Peep Show. It was sold by local W124 expert Nick Froome, on behalf of Jesse, who commented on its specification and the overall good condition of the car. Nick has previously featured on piston heads articles as well as auto car, in which the car featured.
In my ownership the car has received a full gearbox overall as well as regular servicing and a detail. It is a fantastic car to drive, especially on a long run and the 3. 2 litre 6 cylinder engine sounds fantastic, particularly above 4000rpm.
The car is quite unique in my opinion - an all-black estate car in non-metallic 040 black with a mushroom leather interior. Black and mushroom is a classic combination, but it's usually Blue-Black, where the lower body panels ("kit") are painted a paler shade of grey. Once you see a W124 with the kit painted the same colour as the body you see what a difference it makes and, when the colour is glossy black, it transforms the way the car looks
This is a high-spec car with the full-fat 3. 2-litre engine, 5-speed automatic gearbox, sports chassis, cruise control and air-conditioning. It wears Sportline badges but, to the pedantic W124 spec-watcher, it's not a Sportline car as it lacks the sports seats, steering wheel & gearknob of the full-spec cars. What is does have are the best bits of the Sportline package - the sports suspension, lower ride height, quicker steering and bigger wheels & tyres. It's still a softer car than any modern BMW or Mercedes and retains the usual W124 comfortable ride.
