1959 AJS 500 cc single
I have had this bike for a few years always in a dismantled state , I have over time put the bike back together checking things buying missing parts to make complete in order to dry run everything and make sure everything was there . The only item I know currently is missing is the head steady bracket
Starts and runs , I have rode it along the path and all gears engage well and clutch works well , original chronometric is working
Front forks are all good with no play in them , new oil seals
I had new spokes put in front wheel and rebuilt with original rim and has new tyres and tubes , the brake shoes need relining . Wheel bearings have come out and new grease and oil seals replaced . Obviously rims and rear spokes are original so some chrome is missing and used
The gearbox was taken to bits and all found to be in good condition apart from the kickstart pawl which a new one was found and replaced , clutch is all good
Engine had been taken apart big end appears very good ( may have. Even been replaced but not sure ) the piston looked like a new hepolite one
The bike was rewired with new rectifier and battery
I haven’t repainted the guards they are the originals and appear to be in vgc
Thanks all the cables on the bike I have replaced as all originals were past it !
The tank panels are rechromed originalls I purchased for it
No v5 but see photos of clear engine and frame numbers
I have other earlier bikes to restore so I thought I’d let this one go , I would expect with a little more work and checking and v5 appling for you might be able to use as us or would make easy restoration
