1947 Lanchester LD10

This very sweet and rare Lanchester LD10 is a solid, well looked after car which was subject to a full body off restoration. It is at a get in and drive stage, but could use some fettling and improvement. Coloured Royal Blue with a well worn Blue interior, it is a desirable period combination and pleasing to the eye..
There are no obvious signs of rust or rot and the car has clearly been loved for a significant number of years to get to this point today. In the history files are photographs of the bare chassis being worked on, treated and painted, and today it remains in that great, worked on state. This little Lanchester is perfectly usable with plenty of scope for further fettling and improvement, but knowing you have a good solid chassis and body work.
Hopefully the photographs are a good gauge of its overall condition to date, but the camera is always slightly flattering to the darker paintwork, which suffers imperfections across the car, making the paint work ‘fair’ condition.
From cold the engine starts easily, the choke cable is very smooth and works on the lock. The engine quickly ticks over well. Once you have selected your desired gear, Pulling away is a joy. They are unique to drive, but easy once you get the hang of it. Each gear engages well and there are no whirling sound when driving along.
Steering is fair and it doesn’t wander around the road too much, and importantly the brakes work as efficiently as possible.
All 4 tyres are in fair condition and not showing too much ageing or deterioration, I certainly wouldn’t think it a problem to use them for a bit to get to know the car.
The interior is in fair condition. The drivers seat needs improving immediately as it has seriously deteriorated, but is still functional. The roof is clean and seemingly watertight.
It drives as well as should for the age/ level the car is at, by no means perfect but very usable on a more local scale (I have enjoyed using it for my lunch runs).
