For sale is my 1987 Toyota Corolla GL 1. 3. This everyday classic car is in great condition and fits the 'granny spec' brief. It could be the basis for a very good Corolla GTI project, although I think it should be kept as is.
Quirks and features include retro pop-out windows, a retractable aerial, the original cassette player and radio, an old-school economy gauge in the instrument cluster to help you drive more frugally on fuel, and a full brown interior, which I believe may have been an option when it was sold!
It's in great condition with very little rust, just a slight bit on one front wing behind the mudguard, but for its age there's very little.
It's done 64012 miles and still runs brilliantly. It's an old school carburated engine but has an autochoke, so no need to choke it manually in the cold like some older cars. I bought it because it was retro and quirky but very easy and reliable to live with, and felt smooth and comfortable to drive. I now want to pass it on as my dream car has come up and I need the garage space.
Listed for £2995 but open to offers!
I've owned sports cars in the past and yet this Corolla seems to get more attention than anything else. I've taken it to car shows such as 'Festival of the Unexceptional' and even JDM car shows and it's always got a lot of love!
It's a real 80s time capsule and fun fact: it's the last Toyota to be produced without the modern logo we know today, so just has the word 'TOYOTA' all round.
