1989 BMW E30 Pandem V8

This car started life as a 318i/ 2 automatic, and led a fairly normal existence until 2020 when it’s owner made a plan for something a bit more “dramatic” The car was delivered to race car preparation and fabrication experts “Racelab” and a plan was hatched for a radical makeover!

Out came the tiny M40 1. 8L four cylinder engine and automatic, and in went the mighty BMW M62B44 4. 4L V8, backed by a BMW Getrag 420G 6 speed box. The 168mm rear axle was swapped out in favour of the larger 188mm rear axle, with an LSD to help put the power down. The engine and gearbox required fabricated mounts as well as modifications to the sump pan to enable the fitment, and these were done to an exceptionally high standard by the crew at Racelab. A full custom stainless exhaust directs all of those dirty greenhouse gasses to the rear of the car, where a custom tip exits through the one-off rear diffuser.

The exterior was treated to the “Pandem” body styling kit from Japan. A custom front splitter was fabricated, custom composite bonnet, as well as a lot of smaller parts such as the filler panel on top of the radiator support panel, and a fabricated airbox, which was crafted from sheet aluminium, before being finished in wrinkle black. This takes a K&N panel filter, and breathes cold air in front behind the RH headlights (none of this “jam a cone filter on the throttle body and job done business!) Adjustable shocks were fitted on all corners, along with BMW E46 355mm brakes at the front and E30 disc brakes on the rear.

18x10 wheels are fitted to the rear, while 18 x 9 wheels are fitted to the front, filling out those extended wheelarch extensions very nicely! After a complete “dry build” the bodywork was dismantled, and painted in a custom orange, before being carefully reassembled.

The interior was fully trimmed in black leather, with orange stitching, and finished off with a numbered dash plaque from Racelab, signifying the uniqueness of the build.

Performance as you can imagine is very impressive, and the wonderful V8 sound will leave nobody in doubt that this car moves as well as it looks.

The engineering and detail which has gone into the build has to be seen, the more you look the more you notice, this car is packed full of detail. This is a top level build by skilled professionals.
