UNIQUE 1964 WOLSELEY 1500 Series III
'ARH 844B' started life in April 1964 as one of BMC's popular compact Wolseley saloons finished in BMC 'Trafalgar Blue' with contrating 'Squirrel Grey' interior
The car was obviouly well mainatined by its various owners and has covered only 82, 000 miles to date
In the early 2000's it was commissioned from its Yorkshire owner to appear in the ITV 'Hearbeat' Series, which was filmed in the area and resulted in having a a new lease of life.
Because of this, she was restored at considerable expense and later treated to a number of major upgrades which have resulted in this being one of the best performing and driveable examples of this Classic, but retaining all its loverly original features (including of course the illuminated classic Wolseley front grille badge!)
To summarise the major upgrades carried out:-
Extensive body restoration including inner & outer sills, wings, front crossmember, floor and front panel but retaining the original doors with new steel wings, Completely rustproofed underneath, Resprayed in original BMC 'Trafalgar Blue' with all new window & door rubbers Fitting a fully reconditioned late model 5 bearing 1796cc MGB engine with twin SU carbs and 4 speed gearbox with synchro on all 4 gears and matching Lacock overdrive unit (see specs below) with new clutch.
Complete brake, steering & suspension overhaul with all new cylinders & copper brake pipes; new exhaust etc etc
Very high quality re-chroming of external parts as required
Excellent pair of Vanden Plas front leather reclining seats (much more comfortable than the originals)
and all new carpets incl boot
Rewiring and fitted Alternator & upgraded headlamps
Total cost in excess of £7000 with invoices (Excluding cost of engine & gearbox replacement !)
More recently under the last previous owner she has been subject to a further £2000 of expenditure including:-
FULL service and all new lubricants
Reconditioned heater unit and piping
Air filter housing stripped & refurbished with new MG alloy rocker cover (Nb original retained)
Reproduction period alloy Minilite wheels on Continental tyres retainng original spare
(Nb can be replaced with same size originals if required)
Woodrim steering wheel and high quality dashboard / door fillets refinished
Fitted auxilliary instrument panel of rev counter, voltmeter & clock (all workiing correctly)
Complete front suspenion overhaul incl trunions, bushes, steering rack, new dampers etc
Remedial paintwork and bodywork to remove micro-blistering
Rear diff. pinion oil seal replaced & new rear axle oil
Fitted front foglamps & reversing light (not yet wired up)
Original 'Ace' number plates restored & new Wolseley chrome badges
New high output battery & new o/ drive toggle switch (nb solenoid needs replacement)
Overdrive unit and valves fully serviced and checked
New chrome window surrounds
Many other new parts and attention to detailAltogther the Wolseley is now in remarkable condition and is a real 'Wolf in Sheep's clothing' in terms of performance and relaiblity and represents an unusual opportunity to purchase a Classic which is more than capable of keeping up with much more modern cars & driving conditions
