Brief History

The Land Rover “Perentie” was built by Jaguar Land Rover in Australia specifically for the Military

The difference is that the vehicle has a specific heavy duty galvanised chassis which is longer than the standard, this was to enable ‘tie down” eyes for air transport and the stowage of the spare wheel under the rear body. They were also fitted with an Isuzu 4BD1 diesel engine as standard, with the Turbo version standard for the 6x6 version. Usually, the Land Rover 4 speed LT95 gearbox was fitted.

Mileage

The currently fitted speedo at the last MOT shows 199, 237 miles.

The previous owner upgraded the vehicles dashboard to the more up to date PUMA style and the currently installed speedo is from the donor vehicle.

Reference to the MOT in July 2018 shows the distance travelled at 87, 170km or 54, 164 miles before the change. So approx 60, 000 given the current mileage.

MOT until October 2024 – 3 owners including the Australian RAF.

Why are we selling

The original plan was to travel all 48 contiguous States in America.

The vehicle required more work than originally planned, then we kept adding to the specification, which delayed departure. In one way was fortuitous, as we would have been stuck in the States during Covid.

Post Covid the cost of the trip, specifically shipping made it uneconomical. Then some family and health issues came to the fore which made sure that the planned trip was not going to happen.

We enjoy the Perentie but have other cars and it is not being used enough, hence the difficult decision to sell.

This is a unique vehicle as it is not a Defender, we believe that approx. 15 have been imported to the UK.

Engine and Gearbox
This Perentie has fitted the 3. 9 Turbo Diesel engine usually reserved for the 6x6, this enables a very pleasant drive and returns circa 29 mpg on a run. This is paired with the Land Rover LT85 5 speed gearbox rather than the standard LT95.
