Description
For sale, a 1934 Austin Ruby Mk1 in need of total restoration.
As you can tell this Ruby has been off the road for many years, it was last on the road in the 1990’s. Since then, it has been dry stored.
These cars are great fun, no, they aren’t fast, they top out at around 45mph, but I can say with certainty that they are the most fun you can have at that speed. They have a 750cc four-cylinder engine and this being the Ruby model it has a four-speed manual gearbox compared to earlier models which only had a three-speed gearbox.
The mileage in this car is 6580, I have no proof that this is the original mileage, it may have gone round the clock, who knows! The engine will need to be fully rebuilt and gone through anyway, so mileage is almost irrelevant.
Aside from additional indicators the car is in original condition. I have removed the interior in order to access the bodywork, there is a small patch of rust at the very base of the rear seat as pictured. There is also corrosion to the passenger side bulkhead. The engine does turn over on the starting handle, but I have not attempted to start it. This car will require a full restoration so assume that everything will need attention. The interior is in original condition, the rear seat will need attention, but the front seats could be salvaged. The original rubber floor mats were badly perished that they could not be saved.
This is an excellent project and a cheap way into the pre-war scene, viewings are most welcome & advised! The tyres will hold air enough to load it onto a trailer and nationwide delivery can be arranged at the buyer’s expense.
The price is £2, 750 open to negotiation upon viewing. Located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland!
