It’s with a heavy heart I put my 740i m-sport up for sale. Before I go into the intricate details I need to make it clear that I feel like I’m selling my wife!

I purchased the car in November 2014 with approx 131, 000 on the clock. I used the car as a daily drive from November 2014 until September 2017.

The car has loads of service history, a shed load of receipts - in the last 9 years I’ve spent in the region of £15, 000 on maintenance and upgrades.

Since owning the car I’ve replaced the power steering pump (it failed). Put it on BC BR coilovers, changed the head lights, installed an Alpina splitter on the front, and have replaced the bonnet as the original had rust coming through. Exhaust back boxes also changed for a bit more low end rumble.

The majority of you will probably know how poor the sound systems are in e38s, so I changed the entire sound system to an Alpine Type R system; components in the front doors, coaxial in the rear doors, 8” subwoofer in rear arm rest, controlled by an Alpine IDA-X100 head unit with a bass controller in the glove box and powered by a 5 channel PDX-V9 amplifier on a custom made bracket situated in the boot where the CD changer would have originally been. Please note that although the system is a wet dream for most 17 year olds, it was installed for clarity and sound quality.

In 2018 I had the top end of the engine rebuilt by a local BMW specialist, the mileage was 159, 226. The car originally went in for timing chains and guides but when we got into it we decided to go a bit further. Later that year I took the car on a 2, 500 mile road trip around Europe. The gearbox gave up on me at Calais (luckily on the way back). So once I was home I booked it in with a Gearbox specialist to have the gearbox rebuilt followed by the valve body. The car is now silky smooth.

Since then the car has been garaged and only comes out a handful of times each year.

The not so good bits;
Slight surface rust just coming through on the rear arches and also a little on the boot lid. I’ve been quoted £400 - £500 to get this sorted.
Usual pixel issues on the dash. Again this isn’t an expensive fix just getting around to it.

I’ve put everything into getting the car mechanically sound rather than worrying about cosmetics up until now. The wheels were refurbished (diamond cut) last year and the bodywork is in good condition for the age as you can see in the images.

I want my car to go to a home where it will be loved and enjoyed as much as what I have over the past 9 years. It has been cared for with no expense spared and if it continues to be looked after I’m sure it will continue to increase in value.

£7, 995
