BSA DBD 34 Gold Star 500 cc - YLT 423
Gold Star Owners Club validated engine and frame numbers, paperwork available.
Engine
DBD34 GS 7070 originally dispatched to Fred Deeley, Vancouver on 28 March 1963 making it one of the last engines from the factory before BSA stopped production photo copy of the factory 'Brake Test' sheet is included in the paperwork.
Frame
CB32 9006 originally dispatched to F Parks, 404 High Street, Lewisham, London SE13 on 28 October 1959. A copy of the original registration document shows the bike being registered to John Hyler of Widnes on 8 February 1960.
The Gold Star Owners Club wrote on 21 March 2018 validating the frame and engine numbers, additionally explaining that in 2009 the engine was recorded as being in Germany and then in 2015 in Yorkshire.
Ownership and work carried out
I purchased the bike 27 June 2018 from Len Haggis of Three Bridges, Crawley, West Sussex a well known BSA Gold Star specialist.
He re-commissioned the bike for me, work carried out included;
- fitting the correct front brake
- Dynamo Test and Lucas Voltage Regulator Test, both 6 April 2018
During my ownership I have had the following work carried out;
- complete rewire retaining 6 volt electrics to preserve period correct standards on 13 July 2019 by Mr C Last of Ferretts Electrickery a well know vintage motorcycle wiring/ electrics expert and regularly featured in Classic Bike Magazine. (£795)
- Front Forks service by Steve Jordan Motorcycles 8 July 2019 ( £335. 95)
- Nova Racing 5 speed touring gearbox conversion kit fitted by Foundry Motorcycles of Chichester. (£2, 172. 00 cost of gearbox).
- The Amal Mk 1 Carburettor - model R1038 has been serviced by Classic Bike Parts of Cheshire 27 August 2021
- Kick Start Quadrant and Ratchet Pinion replaced in August 2022
- Various receipts for other parts over the period of my ownership totalling £508. 39
Condition of the bike and living with it
The bike has always been garaged.
The speedo shows a mileage of 47, 000 approx, though obviously, this cannot be verified and would be for the frame and forks.
The bike is in good condition , obviously it is a 64 year old bike!
The wheels are the correct Borrani alloy rims . Chrome is good on the stainless steel spokes. The tyres are Avon Roadrider in good condition.
The paintwork on the frame is in good condition.
The bike starts well from cold
The bike has always been run on 98 or 99 RON petrol.
