Good day,
A 66-year-old gem from South Africa is available on market.
I am the owner of a 1958 VW Beetle, sometimes referred to as the stretch oval.
History of the vehicle.
The car was bought 2 August 1958 at Lawrence Motors Durban South Africa, I am the second owner of the vehicle.
I purchased the car in December 2019 in a fully driveable roadworthy condition. Soon after purchase, a restorations process commenced.
This included:
• full respray with all body panels removed from the vehicle
• Replacement of the period correct interior
• Replacement of all window, door, boot and bonnet rubbers
• new engine and gearbox mountings,
• new brakes, master and slave cylinders. Flexible brake fluid hoses replaced
• Front suspension upgraded to a unit with a stearing damper. King and linkpin replacement done.
• Vehicle was upgraded from 6v to a 12v system as well as a 1500cc single port engine with the original 1192cc non synchronized gearbox in place by original owner. Documentation on hand.
• The ignition was upgraded to electronic distribution.
• Semaphores were upgraded to 12v and are fully functional.
• All chrome is original and has not been re coated.
• The 14” rims and tyres currently on the vehicle are from a 1964 VW Bus. This due to the unavailability of quality 15” tyres. The original 15” rims will accompany the sale.
• Accessories to the vehicle will be an original VW tow bar as well as the original roof rack.
• Car is licensed, roadworthy and on the Natis system.
The vehicle is overall in excellent condition and frequent car shows.
The asking price is 13500 pounds, shipping and any other costs will be for the buyers account.
