Here we have a wonderful example of a 1960 Series 2 Land Rover which has recently undergone a total rebuild with a twist. Both the original bulkhead and chassis has needed minimal repair which indicates that it has been looked after by its past custodians. The grey colour was matched to an original panel to bring it back to how it would have looked when leaving the factory in October 1960.
The engine is a 3 bearing 2. 25L petrol and has been fitted with a full synchromesh gearbox with the addition of an overdrive unit, giving it a more modern driving experience. The bodywork and roof has been finished in full grey with black elements like wheels and bumper to give this vehicle a modern twist. All ready to serve for another 64 years.
The car has been fully stripped and rebuilt with new parts where necessary including springs and front swivel joints. The chassis has been spray painted with a rust preventer (Raptor) and the bodywork has been sprayed to a very high level with a 2 pack paint epoxy.
The Land Rover was built in September 1960 and was despatched to Collier Limited in Birmingham in the October. The vehicle was then first registered in the following March 1961. Colliers were the main Rover dealer based in Birmingham from 1929 up until the mid sixties. The brochure attached was created for their 25th anniversary. My son and I purchased the car from an enthusiast 2 years ago, who had stored it in their garage for the prior 10 years plus which fits with its last known MOT being in 2008. showing the mileage at being 21, 678. Please note that we have had to change the vehicles odometer due to malfunction of the speed indicator needle, thus the new reading at 7982.
