The Sabre 4GT was introduced to the UK market by Reliant in 1962 in collaboration with the Israeli Company Autocars who had contracted the company to build their own model called the Sabra for the American and other markets. Reliant liked the car and with some changes for the UK market the first models in 1962 were produced with the 1700 Ford consul 375 engine and then later in 1963 were specified with the six cylinder variant. Models were 2 door coupe and a small number of convertibles some with a hardtop. A total of 77 cars were made. This car is a tribute to car No 16 which was entered for the 1962 Tulip Rally. Cars were also entered in the RAC Rally.
NCM371 has only had four keepers in its lifetime, two same name registered at the same address. The last keeper owned the car for over 45 years although the last nine years it has been dry stored.
Much work has been carried out over the years both mechanical, as well as bodywork with an colour change and a respray in circa 2013. The interior was also retrimmed in beige leather at that time.
There will be an element of recommissioning necessary as the car has been in storage for some time although fifty miles or so have been completed in the last year.
Bodywork is tidy as is the paintwork from a few yards but close up there are some imperfections under the paint. Typical of glass fibre bodied vehicles. The benefit is they don't rust. The interior is very tidy, under the bonnet could do with a bit of detailing, tidying the wiring etc.
With a service and some detailing the car should be ready to use.
There is a massive history file and some boxes of spares. There are also some pictures printed from the Internet of Sabre models that took part in competition.
An opportunity to buy a very rare model which has plenty of style.
This pretty little car is now 62 years old and only four keepers from new. It's priced at well below market value to allow for any recommissioning that may be needed.
