Description

After 47 years of ownership, the time has come to part company with my 1967, square tube chassis, Ginetta G4. The car is unrestored with an extensive documented history and is well known to the Ginetta Owner’s Club. Over the years it has had components repaired and replaced as necessary, with original specification parts where available, thus maintaining the driving characteristics of the period. The car retains its original body panels, which were British Racing Green, but resprayed black prior to my ownership. The paint has extensive micro blistering and stone chips whilst the fibre glass has some crazing as might be expected from some 96, 700 miles of road and competition use. In 1980 the chassis was separated from the body and floor pan and the rusty sections replaced. The following year the front of the chassis was rebuilt and rejigged following an accident at Snetterton. Since then, the car has travelled thousands of miles, competed in over 70 events and passed numerous MOT tests. Originally supplied with a Ford 1500cc pre-crossflow motor the Ginetta is currently running its third engine, a largely standard Ford Kent 1600cc crossflow on twin Weber DCOE 40s, with a Jenvey Dynamics low profile baffled aluminium sump, lightened flywheel and high capacity oil pump and is producing around 75 BHP at the rear wheels - similar to its predecessor 1500cc pr-crossflow ‘race’ engine. That is all the power you need in such a light car running on 5 inch rims and period tyres. NAP 4F is a genuine Whitham built G4, which retains its character from when I purchased the car in July 1976. The car has recently benefited from a ‘refresh’ including a new baffled aluminium fuel tank fabricated by Compbrake Motorsport, a Facet electric fuel pump and new fuel lines, four Blockley 165/ 13 tyres, a new Girling brake master cylinder and rebuilt clutch cylinders with silicon fluids and a purged cooling system with new antifreeze. The car runs on E5 fuel with a Miller’s additive. Although essentially a ‘road’ car, NAP 4F has a well documented competition history (race and speed events) in my ownership, including photographs, programmes and official results. A 44 page photo book chronicling the history of this G4 is included in the sale, together with a thick file containing technical information, part numbers and suppliers of components, receipts, old MOTs, old tax discs and sundry correspondence regarding the car. You’re unlikely to find a better documented G4. In addition, with 56 years of patina, the car carries her history with pride. A comprehensive spares package is included in the sale, comprising of a modsports bonnet, rear body section and boot lid, a spare windscreen and frame, a second set of period finned Minilite alloy wheels plus four Minilite magnesium wheels, a spare rear axle with A frame and leading links, two differentials, a pair of new Minifin alloy brake drums, together with a myriad of hard to find smaller components. Also included are the remains of the pre-crossflow ‘race’ engine containing a Kent fast road cam, Duplex timing chain, baffled sump, and Ford Anglia flywheel along with a complete 1500cc engine and sundry pre-crossflow components, sufficient to build an earlier engine. As you might imagine, I shall be sorry to sell this G4 which has given so much pleasure over the last 47 years. I have priced the car realistically and if it provides the new owner with half the fun it has given me, then it is a bargain. If you are interested in becoming the custodian of NAP 4F, please give me a call. I’m happy supply further written information and more photographers to interested parties. I look forward to hearing from you.
