History of this MGB GT
Bought in 1991 by my grandfather in south Wales. When bought it was a hand painted British racing green chrome bumper car that needed some work. After the discovery of some rust the car went in for a full restoration with just under £10, 000 spent on the restoration in 1991 and was immaculate once complete. The restoration included all aspects, bodywork, paint, interior and full engine rebuild. It then had infrequent use until it was parked in my grandfather’s garage. I bought the car from my grandfather in September 2021

The car then went to a local highly respected garage for a full recommission for road use with reliability upgrades in mind. This included:
• A 12-volt battery conversion from the existing twin 6 volt setup
• A battery isolator for security and safety
• Full brake overhaul
• Change of all oils including gearbox and rear axle oil
• Change of fuel pump to new SU electric fuel pump
• New water pump
• Change of rubber fuel lines for those resistant to new ethanol fuel
• New electronic ignition system (replaced points and condenser)
• Full engine tune, including the clean and rebuild of both carbs.
• New exhaust system (rear half)
• Welding done on corroded centre section of chassis (replaced with new steel and weather coated)
• Fit new rear axle bump stops and stop plates.
• New ignition switch and steering lock
• New Steering wheel and larger air filters
• Fresh MOT

Since the recommission for the road. The car has had the following work done:
• New brake master cylinder and vacuum hoses
• New clutch master cylinder and hoses
• Carbs rebuilt and cleaned, and engine tuned.
• New bonnet release cable
• Rebuilt heater box
• New steering rack and gaiter kit
• Other usual things, tyres, spark plugs, fuel lines etc.

The paintwork is in good condition with typical patches of cosmetic rust in the usual spots bottom of doors and the front of the bonnet. No structural rust (sills and wings) evident with the underside looking very clean. The car also features an after-market glass sunroof which is functional and does not leak.
The interior has not been changed other than the steering wheel since the 1991 restoration and is in good condition showing its age/ patina.

The most recent work identified low compression in cylinder 2 with piston rings to be believed as the fault. The car still runs and drives beautifully. It is recommended that an an eye is kept on this and is looked into at the new owner’s discretion. Due to this the sale price has been adjusted accordingly.

For a long time, it was believed that the car was the last of chrome bumper models (due to chassis number) although there is evidence on the car that it was converted to chrome from a rubber bumper. The garage which did the recommission has stated it is one of the best conversions they have seen.

I have enjoyed the car for the past 3 years and it is now time for someone else to make some great memories with it.

Great affordable usable and fun classic for someone who wants to drive and enjoy it over the summer and for all of the miles afterwards!
