This ad is for my Clipper Blue 1962 MG Midget Mk1 GAN1.

I have owned this car for 3 years, and have improved and maintained it as a keeper, but it is now a reluctant sale: we are moving, and I am losing my garage. I am selling my two MG's and buying a modern sportscar. I will buy another MG once I have built a garage.

The car came with the hardtop and sidescreens, but have added a softtop, original refurbed frame and full tonneau, both in dark blue to match the dash. I have had the carbs rebuilt by a former MG staffer, and sourced correct air filter housings. That all got the 948cc running well, but I had Peter Burgess rebuild the head to fast road spec to add a little zip. I have the bumpers, included in the sale. I added the hubcaps. The car has been kept in a heated garage throughout my ownership, and was garaged by the previous owner, too.

I went through the car, sorting niggles, and have had it MOT'd each year, next due 24/ 07/ 24. The car is not mint, but is reliable and well sorted. Good condition for 62 years old! If I were keeping it, I would have a body shop address some microblistering on the bonnet and front wings (I guess it was covered briefly at some point), and maybe change the seat covers for ones in a darker blue, although that is personal taste.

This is not a desperation sale - if it does not sell before the move, I will rent a garage locally. I'd just rather make a clean break if possible. Already unhappy at selling! I have tried to price reasonably - these are going up in value, they are increasingly rare, and strong cars are now moving clearly into five figures, even approaching high teens from dealers.  I am realistic about this car but it gets lots of admiring comments, gets down the road well and with some further improvement can only go up in value.  I am open to a negotiation, but please don't confuse it with the more numerous, later £5k cars. Viewable just north of Bakewell. Email more reliable than mobile here!

Thank you for reading!

I bought this lovely little MG as I wanted a classic which had early period style, was narrow and nimble enough to enjoy around the narrow country lanes we have the in the Peak District, which would not cost too much to maintain and which would give me a lot of space in the garage. This car delivered on all of these criteria and then some. I love the look of the early Mk1 Midgets, it really is like a miniature Big Healey in terms of its character, and I fell in love with this one at first sight - the Clipper Blue paint really suits the car (especially with the bumpers removed) and make a lovely change from the endless red and BRG cars. I love it, and would not be selling were it not for us moving to a house without a garage.
