Description

MARCH 90 Alfa Romeo - Indy 500 1990

Our March Alfa Romeo Formula Indy (chassis 90CA-003), year 1989, is the last of the three built for participation in the 1990 Indianapolis 500.

Technical features:
- monocoque frame in aluminum honeycomb and carbon fiber;
- push-rod suspension with gas-filled Koni shock absorbers;
- Brembo self-ventilating disc brakes with 4-piston calipers;
- Alfa Romeo V8 M191 engine of 2648 cc, Weber Marelli engine management for 100% pure methanol fuel, cast iron cylinder liners, titanium connecting rods, 700 HP at 11500 rpm with turbo pressure of 1. 5 bar;
- Hewland DG400 6-speed gearbox + reverse;
- large stock of spare parts.
This car, thanks to its history and the level of its restoration, is a must for collectors and a safe investment. The car with chassis 90CA-003 is entered at the 1990 Indianapolis 500 by Team Patrick – Sponsor Miller as T car for drivers Al Unser Sr. (CA-001 chassis) and Roberto Guerrero (CA-002 chassis).
On 14 May 1990 Guerrero, in the first qualifying tests, seriously damaged chassis 002 and had to resort to the Tcar, which was characterized by a white-gold livery and bore the number 20T.
With this livery, on 19 May 1990, Guerrero qualified chassis 003 with the 28th fastest time at an average of over 342 km/ h.
For the 500 Miglia of 27 May 1990, the 003 livery was changed from white/ gold to black/ gold (the same as the 002 in the accident) with the application of black adhesive films. During the race, after setting the 20th fastest lap, the 003 was forced to retire on lap 118 due to a suspension problem.
The 003 ends its racing life on 15th July 1990, in the Meadowlands, where, 19th at the start, it is 15th at the finish, always driven by Roberto Guerrero.
During its general restoration, which took place in 2010, the black films were removed and the 003 returned to the original white-gold livery.
