I bought this car in 2013/ 14 as a retirement car - I am in my mid 70's and need to sell it due to health reasons. I believe this lovely Saab has all its original paint, it is unmarked, panels are all straight, no dents or scratches only minor stone chips commensurate of age and and only a few scratches on bumper ends. Over the years I have had a couple of welding jobs done, notably under the battery and water bottle trays ….. quite remarkable how this car has survived in this condition. It is without doubt one of the best original and unmolested examples of this model left on the road. I use it regularly as a 3rd car. The electric mohair hood fitted is in superb condition and it works perfectly. It also comes with the original plastic hood canopy in its bag to fit when hood down. The car sits on a lovely set of Saab 16" multi spoke wheels with good quality tyres, fitted less than 300 miles ago ..... no wheel damage as such. These wheels were an up-grade to the standard 15"wheels. These wheels are very rare and cost me £1200 with new tyres. The car is not used in the rain and is garaged with a fitted indoor dust cover.
IT has a new "Nardi" wooden steering wheel fitted, I think this was offered as an option. This cost me £400.
New Shockers B4 and new coils were fitted by Steve of Malbrad Saab in Huddersfield, approx. 4 years ago. I also upgraded the braking system to that fitted on the 9000 model, including larger discs, fitted new braided brake pipes all round including the hand brake,
The interior is leather; this too is superb with a worn look - slight repair on driver’s seat. both front seats are electrically adjustable. Over carpets are good and fitted carpets also good, would benefit from a clean, door cards are excellent. The dash is perfect with no marks or cracking - no sun bleach.
All 4 windows are electric and work well, similarly as do the electric mirrors
The car has cruise control ( can be a bit temperamental at times!) and all other electrics function as they should.
The car comes with walnut dash / Walnut ash tray, door trim etc and has the original Saab radio / cassette complete with electric aerial. It has also the original cassette holder - I have had the radio refurbished, however, fast forward/ rewind can be temperamental at times. It has a new original electric aerial fitted. There are 3 additional VDO gauges fitted in lower console (see photo)
Under bonnet is left as is - I have not it cleaned up, as I've previously said this not a show car! I have fitted a new battery and alternator. The car is a HPT 174 hp and drives superbly. Mechanically its very good .... drives like a much newer car. Engine starts first time, no smoke, Automatic Gearbox (3 spd) is excellent. It has had regular services over the years. It is mot’d until 31 Aug 2024.
The car is very quick and gives many modern cars a run for their money.
The car comes with an original “Fapa” boot/ ski rack in superb condition - which I located overseas. These are RARE beyond belief!!! I even have its brochure. I have also fitted a windbreak on the car.
I have purchased a German remake of the rear exhaust section (twin pipes as originally) this cost me £250.
The car has an amazing Virtually FULL service history with its original owner’s pack and all handbooks, some 2" of paperwork. Service book has 20 Saab service stamps, followed by many bills. There are 2 keys.
The car has 9 registered owners! However, approx 80% of miles covered by just 4 main owners - having gone through 2 local classic auctions. I knew previous owner from a previous dealing with him.
I bought the car to use - not to show, so have not detailed it up as show car - Its just as original as you can get - NO sign of any rust, The main chassis was undersealed some 11 years ago after I bought it.
