Reluctantly, due to ill health and therefore lack of use I have decided to sell my 1963 Citroen 2cv AZAM.
This is the “luxury” 2cv which is quite rare and virtually extinct. The AZAM boasts luxuries such as stainless steel hubcaps, tubular overiders, front and rear rubber buffers, plus sundry items of brightwork, Ami seating, different door handles, an interior light and passenger sun visor, indicator switch on the steering column and a Quillery grey 2 spoke steering wheel.
My particular car is in superb overall condition and fairly original. It has been utterly reliable and undertaken a number of long journeys with ease. It is fitted with a 425 cc engine developing 18 bhp, a considerable increase on the earlier 13 bhp. Although slow on steep hills, on the flat it will cruise at 55mph, touching 60mph at times if driven in a certain manner. Citroen describe the gearbox as 3 speed plus overdrive which is a delight to use. The ride, in my opinion is superior to the later 2cv’s.
Over the last 10 years the car has received,
1. New brake master cylinder along with brake pipes and shoes.
2. New engine cylinders and pistons.
3. At great cost a new old stock carburettor, not a modern reproduction one. This carburettor is unique to the centrifugal clutch model and has transformed how the car performs.
4. New battery and tyres
5. Robri trim to the front of the rear wings.
6. New drive shafts.
7. Electronic ignition.
8. Powder coated wheels.
I understand that the car still has its original chassis which is in superb condition, and a new section of front floor has been professionally replaced to a high standard.
Overall the car presents extremely well, drives as it should, is incredibly comfortable and can cover surprising distances with ease, helped by the centrifugal clutch which makes driving in heavy traffic very relaxing. This classic 2cv is quite a bit different than the later more common 2cv’s resulting in an interesting historical version of the 2cv which has become quite rare but is still practical to use and attracts a great deal of attention.
