During its life the 4/ 4 had been powered by engines from Coventry Climax, Standard and even Fiat but it was Ford propulsive power that most commonly found a place under the 4/ 4’s long, louvered bonnet. In some ways it was the arrival of the 1, 796cc, Zetec R engine in 1993 that finally gave the 4/ 4 an engine/ gearbox combination that could push the featherweight, hand-built car to new heights of performance, reliability, ease of maintenance and dynamics.
