Description
1987 Saab 900i 8-valve 5-door. Mileage around 185, 000. MoT until February 2025. Bodywork is getting tired and needs a replacement rear o/ s door. There is bubbling around the bonnet edge on the right and on both o/ s wheel arches. Underside is OK at present but some welding is likely to be necessary in a year or two. In recent years the underside has been regularly treated with Dinitrol. The interior is very tidy with good headlining, seats and dashboard, though the trim around the rear quarter lights is shabby.
No mechanical problems. The gear box was replaced at 160, 000 miles.
The car is regularly serviced by a Saab specialist. All bills and MoTs available back to 1991 (31, 000 miles). Only 4 previous owners, one of whom described the car in two articles for Saab Driver magazine, in which he wrote, "an excellent Cherry Red 900i 5 door, which we kept for 25 years to 135, 000 miles during which time it never went wrong, although after 20 years some expensive body work was needed to the doors and front suspension mountings, and wings”.
He also wrote, "I was fortunate enough to own five different 900's, all of which were totally reliable and a pleasure to drive far and fast".
This car is mechanically reliable and great fun to drive with a supple ride and excellent handling. And a great load lugger.
