Description

This bike was registered in 1966 and has a recorded mileage of
27 757. During its 58 years a few improvements have been made. Namely an engine rebuild, a UK hand made alloy fuel tank, new springs, new seat , electronic ignition etc, etc. I have owned this bike for 15 years. In November 2024 it will be 60 years since the then head of Royal Enfield, It is believed, asked the opinion of dealers and apprentices what style of bike the young customers wanted. The feedback it is reported, was passed to the Enfield draughtsman and the result was the beautiful Continental GT 250.

A racing style tank, the duel humpback seat, 7 inch front brake with stylish cooling fins, clip on handle bars, Perspex screen, rear set footrests, black gaiters, chrome headlamp set off with an alloy fork top, housing white faced speedometer and rev counter.

To prove the Continental GT had more than just great looks The café racer celebrated its launch by being ridden from John O’ Groats to Lands End in under 24 hours including 8 laps of the Silverstone Racing Circuit by John Cooper and 5 laps by Jeff Duke at Oulton Park.

Only three years later in 1967 Enfield had ceased production.

However, 60 years later well cared for Continental GT’s look as impressive as they did when they were launched, although decent examples are becoming rarer.
