1 of only 383 blue 3 door’s currently on the road. ST170 numbers are rapidly in decline, forum member Roy Baker submitted an FOI to DVLA to find this information, and as an investment choice, imperial blue 3 doors are considered the most desirable, especially with the optional recaro interior.

I am the second official owner of the car, it was pre-registered by Motors Coalville Ford, Leicestershire in November 2004, before being purchased by its first owner in January 2005. It was his weekend car and averaged 3000 miles per year for the next 19 years.

He had the car serviced at Ford for the first three years to maintain warranty, then as an ex-ford tech continued all the servicing work himself, mostly with genuine parts, keeping every single invoice for any part fitted, back filling the service book which has 10 entries, as well as keeping an excel spreadsheet on any work completed, even anything as minor as changing wiper blades. This spreadsheet has been continued by me for all work completed below.

I purchased the car in July 2021, having owned 3 ST170’s prior to this over the last 10 years, and with a real love for them always promised myself if the ‘right one’ came up for sale it would be mine.

I covered a few hundred miles in it before tucking the car away for the winter in October 2021. April 2022 arrived, and upon servicing to prepare it for its MOT, I made the decision to refresh the suspension and bushes given they were all original and approaching 20 years old, one thing led to another and so began a near full scale underside restoration.

All suspension components, brakes, both subframes and steering rack were removed from the car as they were all showing their age, and then made the decision to treat, paint and protect the entire underbody of the car. I must stress the car has NEVER been welded or required welding, all spot welds from factory are still present.

Underbody was ground back to bare metal and then received the following treatment, based on hours of research and advice from professional restorers.
- BiltHamber Deoxgel
- Bilthamber Hydrate 80
- Bilthamber Zinc Primer
- Bilthamber Epoxy Mastic
- Bilthamber Seal Sealer
- Buzzweld Enamel Top Coat matched to imperial blue
- All cavity’s have been filled with BiltHamber Dynax S50

Evidence of the condition of the inner arches can be seen from inside the boot behind the trims, showing no signs of corrosion here or on the boot floor. Both sills are good condition, with no crushed pinch welds or corrosion.

Every single suspension component has been refurbished or replaced where refurbing wasn’t possible, every suspension arm / bush is new including front shocks and all springs, both rear shocks were in perfect usable condition and therefore have been coated black to improve their appearance.

Refurbished parts, mostly powdercoated:
- Subframes
- Rear trailing arms
- Wheel hubs (new bearings fitted)
- Brake callipers and carriers (refurbished by BiggRed Ltd.)
- Anti-roll bars
- Brake dust shields
- Fuel filler pipe
- Rear bumper support bar
- Exhaust heat shields

Steering rack is original and in very good condition, only requiring cleaning and fresh fluid, both tie rods and track rod ends were replaced with new genuine items.

Original fuel tank was drained and cleaned, and a new fuel pump fitted - a known failure point on ST170’s.

Where required, brake lines have been replaced, every rubber brake hose is new and then once all the callipers were fitted they have been diagnostic bled. Handbrake cables are new.

Any new parts are genuine Ford or top quality replacements (Meyle, Bilstein, SKF, etc)

All specialist hardware bolts, clips etc such as subframe bolts, antiroll bar bolts, trailing arm bolts, brake/ fuel line clips have been replaced, the majority genuine Ford, and have then been zinc coated as well.

Engine runs very smooth, always starts first time and has no issues and has not needed any work other than routine servicing and common failure points resolving:

- Timing belt / water pump / aux belt were replaced April 2020 @ 48648 miles
- IMRC (inlet manifold runner control) has been refurbished by Brad Nicholas, well known across ST170/ 220 forums as the specialist to repair these.
- Has been fully serviced in the last couple of hundred miles.
- Thermostat seal, rocker cover gasket and grommets replaced with genuine items.
- Replacement sump. Clutch and gearbox are both fine with a great bite point.

New battery in January 2023 and kept on a trickle charger.

Bodywork is in excellent condition, benefitting from having a professional paint enhancement and ceramic coating. Bear in mind it is still a car on 56k, so not to expect showroom condition, however all of the imperial blue paintwork is original and the car has never needed paint.

The car is still wearing its originally issued dealer plates. Genuine cargo net also still present in the boot.

All 4 wheels have been powder coated in original Ford sparkle silver, 4 new premium tyres fitted and have covered only a couple hundred miles. 4 new genuine centre caps.

Inside, all carpets are in good condition, including genuine floor mats. Drivers seat is electrically operated as standard, and both heat properly as intended. Leather steering wheel, gear & handbrake gators and gear knob are all in good condition. All seats are in good condition, with no rips or tears, there are a couple of marks on door cards that I can provide pictures of. All glass is original and in good condition. Aircon is fully working and is ice cold. Original and unused spare wheel still present in the boot, as is the kit to go with including jack, wheel brace and tow eye.

Full 4 wheel alignment has been done, as to be expected with the work that’s completed, the car drives beautifully and not that I ever drove one of these when they were new, I like to think it is as close as you could get to one now.

MOT’d in August 2024. Both the tester and the guy doing the tracking commented on the high standards of work that has gone into it. As I mentioned above, only hard brake lines that were showing any corrosion were replaced, and therefore to protect further and match the colours all hard lines were painted black, which the tester has noted on its MOT, none of the brake lines are suffering from corrosion - I have pictures of the brake lines pre paint I can share, the first owner regularly kept them greased to preserve them, which again he documents in the history spreadsheet.

This car has been my absolute pride of joy, and one I never intended on selling, to enjoy for years to come. Life has other priorities now which must come first, despite knowing how much I will be kicking myself for this in years to come. I appreciate the price is at the very top end, though you will not find another that has this combination of history, mileage and work that these cars now command as they’re over 20 years old, unless you find one that has been kept in a bubble.

Also included in the sale are several magazines that I have collected that feature ST170’s, such as the Fast Ford features of ‘save the ST170’ series, ‘a buyers guide to the ST170’ and ‘the story behind the ST170’.

Viewings are very much welcome, eBay only allows a certain number of pictures but I can provide endless amounts of pictures throughout the build, as well as a walk round video.

Phone calls welcome to discuss further - the details below

The car is located just outside Norwich, Norfolk, dry stored in my lock up, mileage is unlikely to rise before sale.
