Description
Ford Escort Mk2 1600 crossflow
This vehicle is lovely!
It’s a comfortable, 1978 4 door saloon with a really strong, newly rebuilt engine, that has fantastic sound and acceleration. All mechanical parts throughout the car are either new, or fully refurbished.
It was previously a standard Ford Escort 1600cc Ghia Automatic, but now has a WPE and Reynolds tuned fast road original crossflow engine, with a 234 camshaft and vernier pulley, twin 40 carburettors, oil catch tank, a facet fuel pump with hard line ptfe fuel lines and a filter king, an inertia cut off switch, bestek electronic ignition, uprated hi-torque alternator, alloy radiator with electric fan, a fully restored 4 speed manual escort sport gearbox with a quaife short shifter, custom propshaft, 3j lsd, quaife halfshafts, cosworth rear disc brake conversion, gaz gold rear struts, triangular gusset strengthening plates from bulkhead to chassis, strut top strengthening plates and JBW minilite wheels. The interior is standard with the original ghia cloth interior. When I purchased the car many years ago, I was told that the engine in it was a goldseal engine, but I have seen no evidence to suggest that it is. It’s still the original engine.
The car is lovely, sounds lovely, looks lovely and has undergone years of expensive work to make it what it is today. I wanted a comfortable, quick, well sorted 4 door saloon that stands out – and this does just that. Genuine, reluctant reason for sale.
Very minor points.
I’ve had the car for over 5 years and it’s always had a few tiny micro-bubbles in a couple of small places. There is no rust on the car. I think the sprayer who originally sprayed it, had dust or dirt in the spray gun.
Someone before I purchased it took the ghia chrome off the sides of the car, but left the rear chrome trim on the back of the boot. I haven’t removed it. It sounds and drives lovely
