Description
Moto Guzzi V1000 Convert 1979 43000km 27, 000 miles
This bike has 0 former keepers in the V55 as I imported it myself from Holland in 2016. This model is the most sought-after model with the spoked wheels with Borrani aluminium rims and the Lafranconi exhaust. The automatic twin ratio transmission is a real beauty and a joy to ride giving the relaxing lazy pull of a big V8. I would defy anyone to not enjoy a ride on this classic V twin.
Of all the bikes I’ve had this one is the most reliable starter which fires up first time every time, even when left idle for a few months. The engine is very sweet and free of any mechanical clatter. It pulls hard and never misses a beat. The shaft drive is very good with no whines or play. Obviously, no clutching is required when on the move and it remains in high ratio on all road work. The bike will happily cruise at 80 - 90mph on the open road. It has linked front and rear brakes on the foot pedal and the front brake lever works the other front disc independently. This low-slung bike handles its weight very lightly as it has such a low centre of gravity.
I have all the original panniers and the factory racks. I have the factory screen mounting brackets, but I had to ditch the screen as it was brittle and easily cracked. New T3 smoked screens are available on Gutsibits. co. uk. I also have the rear parking brake kit which connects to the side stand and saves the bike rolling off the stand. It is rare to find this. So overall this is a fully functioning, ready to ride away bog standard, unmodified original 46-year-old auto Convert. New battery in March2025
I have not tried to shine up this bike as I feel it wears its years well and has a nice patina of ageing. Old Guzzi’s don’t need to try too hard. They are just bombproof honest old bikes that will carry on till the end of time. Themilage/ kilometers look genuine. I did not do the use intended as my wife and I had a bad motorcycle accident in Thailand five years ago. Consequently, sheis not a willing pillion anymore so my dreams of motorcycle touring in our retirement have gone for good. Hence sale.
Overall condition: Aged but nicely solid and fully functioning.
Bike located in London SW15 1LT Easy to ride. No clutch required, just twist and go.
Good stopping with linked fron and back brembo braking system.
Big lazy power with low centre of gravity so the bike feels light.
Sounds lovely.
Must surely be depreciation proof by now.
Parts no problem at all - Gutsibits got everything
