If you’re looking for a well-loved, properly sorted E39 530i, this might be the one. Finished in Topaz Blue with a Sand Beige extended leather interior, walnut trim and the rarely-seen anthracite headliner, this is one of the very last E39s built — registered March 2003, with the E60 imminent. It comes with factory-optioned M Parallel (Style 37) wheels, manual seats, and even the legendary Nokia 6310 car phone (if you know, you know). It’s got all the period-correct extras too: fire extinguisher, medical kit, glovebox torch, and a full toolkit in the boot.
This was my first go at modern classic car ownership and, predictably, I threw my bank account at it. Purchased at 88, 000 miles, now showing just shy of 122, 000 after four years of enjoyable and reliable driving — including a 2, 000-mile round trip to Bavaria where it didn’t put a foot wrong. I've aimed to keep the car as OEM and original as possible, using only genuine BMW parts throughout my ownership (unless otherwise noted). It’s always been run on V-Power, never left me stranded, and has been driven as BMW intended — not babied, but respected. I ran an Instagram account for the car too: search “topazblue530” to see the journey.
There’s partial service history from before my ownership, and since then over £10, 000 in documented spending to bring it up to standard. Highlights include a new sump gasket, head gasket and rocker cover, front and rear springs, refurbished headlights (adjusters fixed), and brake lines in the engine bay upgraded to braided. The cooling system’s been tackled too: expansion tank, coolant pipes, water pump, and belt tensioner all replaced. The car had a full service in March this year, including new spark plugs. It’s got a new key (with both old ones and the concierge key included), new front and rear badges, grill inserts, and a BMW-fitted MSport rear bumper. Even the front undertray and both “pork chops” are sorted — proper OEM and good quality reps respectively. Lanoguard underseal was applied in November 2023. Front wheel bearings and brakes were overhauled in January (discs, pads and pistons). There's more — happy to talk through all the details in person or over the phone.
Tyres are Michelin PS4s up front, PS5s on the rear, all in good nick. The spare also has fresh rubber. The M Parallel wheels, to my knowledge, have never been refurbished. They’ve got some kerb rash and enamel chips, but I’ve kept them original — honest patina for those who prefer it. There’s also a GROM unit installed, included in the sale, using the CD changer harness for Bluetooth audio connectivity while retaining the uncluttered OEM-look. You can also connect your phone to the car’s existing phone prep via bluetooth too.
The speedo needle is a bit lazy (though cruise control is still accurate), and the parking sensors don’t work. There are a couple of rust bubbles starting to show — photos will show the spots — and while the paint has a rich depth of colour, it would benefit from a proper correction. The driver’s seat bolster has some wear, but the rest of the interior (especially the passenger seat and rear bench) is in excellent condition. Carpets have been protected with rubber mats throughout, over the factory mats.
The car comes with additional parts, too: a DISA valve (could be refurbished), original BMW Business tape deck (BMW Business CD unit currently installed), front centre air vents (to replace the cracked ones), original grills, wheel emblems and more. The V5C is in hand, MOT is valid until November 2025 and the car is ULEZ compliant. Test drives welcome with proof of insurance.
It’s not concours, but it’s honest, well-sorted, and ready to enjoy. If you’re an enthusiast who’s been waiting for a usable, characterful E39 with the big jobs handled — this is your sign.
Priced to reflect condition, originality, and the work already done. No silly offers, please.
