Description
This 2001 Jaguar X-Type 2. 5 V6 Automatic (Y-reg) is a rare early model with just 67, 000 miles on the clock. It’s a smooth, well-maintained example of Jaguar’s executive saloon, with some tasteful upgrades and great potential either as a light restoration project or a use-as-is modern classic.
It comes with a replacement automatic gearbox from a 2008 model, giving improved drive quality and reliability. It also benefits from a professionally fitted twin electric tow bar, added less than five years ago, which was used to tow a small caravan for about a year. Light use only, and always within its capabilities.
Mechanically, the car is sound. The V6 engine runs beautifully and starts first time. It’s had a recent oil change, a brand-new air filter, and a new battery. All electrics work as they should, including the windows, lights, and the original Jaguar cassette stereo.
Walkaround Video Available:
If you’re interested, feel free to message me for a video of the car starting and running. It’s really worth hearing how smooth the engine is — the V6 still sounds spot on.
The car is currently SORN, and the last MOT expired on 15 September 2023. It passed MOTs consistently up to that point and has been off the road since.
Cosmetically, the car is in fair condition for its age. There are some paint blemishes, light age-related marks, and the bonnet release cable needs replacing. The coolant cap is a working replacement, but a new reservoir bottle would give a better fit. The interior is clean and usable, but not immaculate — ideal for someone wanting to enjoy and improve it over time.

Additional background:
• To the best of my knowledge, I am the second owner.
• The car was originally owned by an elderly lady in the south of England, kept in a garage and driven sparingly.
• It had just 33, 000 miles when I bought it privately.
• It has full service history up to 2022, and although it hasn’t been on the road since, it has been regularly started and maintained while SORN to keep everything in good working order.
• No known history issues, and the only major work required during my ownership was the gearbox replacement.

This is a strong, running example of an increasingly rare model — early Y-reg, low mileage, mechanically sound, and already fitted with desirable extras. A great candidate for an enthusiast, collector, or anyone after a standout modern classic without paying top-end prices. I bought this car during the Covid period because I wanted something solid, reliable, and well-built that would last — and it did exactly that. It was hard to find anything at the time with genuinely low mileage, but this Jaguar stood out immediately with just 33, 000 miles on the clock, which was incredible for a car nearly 20 years old.
What I’ve always loved about it is the way it drives. The V6 engine is smooth and refined, and the car has a really comfortable, executive feel to it — it still turns heads and feels like a proper British saloon.
Because of its age, I’ve made a habit of changing the oil twice a year, even when not in heavy use, just to keep everything clean and healthy. It’s been regularly started and maintained while off the road and has always been mechanically looked after.
I also made a couple of small upgrades inside — including a dash trim change — but I’ve kept all the original parts so it can easily be restored to full factory spec if someone prefers it that way. It also comes with a spare wheel.
It’s a lovely car with character, and I think it still has a lot of life and enjoyment to offer the next owner — whether that’s for occasional use, gentle restoration, or general use.
