Description
Kz750N-1 Spectre limited edition shaft drive cruiser.
Historic vehicle, so cheap to insure, free road tax and MOT exempt.
Ride to repair, return to concourse or just ride its backside off!
Low miles, only 9668 believed to be genuine because the bike rides well.
Masses of low down torque, a pleasant ride up to 55 mph after which it gets a bit lively up to about 85, but it’s not a sprinter, it’s a lazy arsed cruiser for sunny days and lazy ways.
During my ownership I have stripped and rebuilt the carbs, had the tank flushed with chemical cleaner, de-gunker and rust treatment and electrolysis to break off any potential dead metal within. Replaced the fuel tap with a genuine NOS one and rebuilt the indicators internally.
All filters and oils were changed / topped up last year.
The only things that are not OEM are the mirrors, about 45 quid each if you want genuine, and the grips, plus the headlamp, which is a good Chinese copy because the pattern on the original US market lamp points into traffic so it’s an MOT fail.
Tyres are good and hold air. Air shocks work.
It may benefit from some valve stem seals because it does smoke a bit until it’s warmed up.
The "low fuel" warning sensor was leaking fuel so it has been plugged and no longer works. Not a huge issue since it has a reserve tank feature. Last time I looked they were available at something like 169 quid!
The hazard warning lights are a little strange. To work you have to press the button and then move the indicator switch to the other side. I suspect it does not have the correct flasher unit installed.
There is a small rip in the seat on the side and various rusty bits as is to be expected of a 43 year old machine.
So why am I selling it after four and a half years of ownership? My age, bad hips and a fire that damaged my left leg!
It’s a very heavy iron maiden. Well, it wasn’t when I was younger for sure as this is my second one, but these days I struggle to get it on and off the main stand.
So it’s time to shift focus onto my many (too many) other bikes!I bought it because I had one years ago and liked it.
It's not really stand out or unique but it's pretty rare and rides well.
My absolute favourite thing about this is that it's not concourse so you don't mind getting it out and letting it get a bit dirty.
Being historic you can insure it for peanuts and just leave it in the garage until the rare moments when we have good weather in the UK.
The low down torque makes it easy to ride in traffic.
