Description
This rare 1976 XJ4. 2 Coupe was Australian Delivered in 1977 to Brysons in Adelaide South Australia. It presents in immaculate condition with an accompanying thick service history file including photographic evidence of an earlier rebuild. Resplendently glorious in its original Colour of Old English white with Velour Interior in a delightful shade of Fawn, makes a truly impressive and enjoyable place to spend time in on long drives in Grand tourer fashion.
Recently recommissioned after a short period of layup with extensive recent work totalling over AU$12, 000, leaving nothing for her new owner other than to drive and enjoy, a further benefit to the documented low 27, 000 Kilometres with original matching numbers engine, fully rebuilt during an earlier restoration. I’ve recently put over 1, 000 issue free miles where the reliability and performance from this work completed has proven all the money spent has been worth it.
Every bush, rubber and suspension component has been replaced, front and rear, resulting in a quiet rattle free waft, exactly as Jaguar engineered this girl to drive 50 years ago. 4 new original style mufflers sound delightful at idle as she starts up instantly and settles into a quiet burble. Push her a little from cruising speed and she responds rapidly without fuss or over exertion with just a little more of that quiet burble but never intrusive into the luxurious cocoon. She pulls away without hesitation, with an impressive oil pressure staying constant and temperature rarely varying even on hot days and big uphill climbs with the air conditioner running and even when the engine pushed a little harder to maintain cruising speeds on mountain roads. Steering is accurate without any slop in the steering attesting again to the rigorous attention given to replaced suspension componentry. This 4. 2 has no skuttle shake or jitters on nasty roads and soaks everything up without wallowing or diving in corners.
Inside the walnut dash still shines and is in perfect condition from the restoration in the early 2000s, when the Australian Jaguar XJ Coupe register described her as being in Usable Concours condition. The air conditioning is cold and on a hot day cools down the cabin after sitting in the sun within mere moments. All the switches on the dash work, the electric windows all glide up and down as they originally did from the factory, according to my Jaguar specialist, better than any other he has seen in years and the steering wheel sits perfectly centred following the wheel alignment after all the suspension work. The clock quietly ticks away and keeps perfect time with that unique Jaguar sound.
Most of the Old English white Coupes came with Red interiors. If that is a bit over the top in your eyes, then you’ll love the subtle shade of the much rarer Fawn. The velour has survived extremely well attesting to her low milage, which would be hard to find on any of the leather examples, and it is also a much nicer place to sit in the soft velour. Forget about sheep skins, these seats simply don’t need to be covered for comfort as leather seats most often are and it would be a shame not to enjoy sitting on the much rarer velvety velour. The overall upholstery finish throughout the interior of the car is outstanding, with only a few minor character blemishes to be expected from a surviving interior approaching 50 years old. The Radio Cassette is an original AWA Clarion AM/ FM working from both front door speakers.
Supplied with 3 full sets of Keys and an original Series 2 Coupe Operating, Maintenance and Service Handbook included, along with a thick history file and old photos. Gorgeous and rarer than E Type Jaguar, valued and insured for AU$68, 000 a fair asking price for a lovely car which drives like new and would be very difficult to find in such good condition for any less. Forget about trying to restore anything lesser for even close as it would cost many many thousands more to do so. Having the benefit of a dry climate and salt free roads you'll find a very solid rust free classic in immaculate condition.
