However, here is one for sale and if an amphibious car isn't special enough in its own right this one is even more bonkers special as it was owned by the lead guitarist from one of the worlds biggest Rock bands The WHO!!!
It was ordered and purchased from the Dutton factory in 2003 by Pete Townshend and used for commuting from his riverside house in Richmond on the Thames to the recording studio as I believe by water was the only way he was allowed to drive at that time - Last picrure shows excitement from the PT fan page! I have all of the signed order forms and plenty of documentation etc. All correctly registered and the V5 is here and in my name.......
Eventually when he moved he just left the car at the house (yes really!) and ownership passed to the new owners who sent the car to Duttons for inspection. It was deemed too expensive at Duttons hourly rate to restore it and many years passed with this car being sadly neglected. I bought it from Tim Dutton last year as literally a body shell. Myself and my sons have done wonders with this car using a mechanically superb Suzuki Jimny as a donor for the engine, gearbox and axles etc.
Life is a funny old thing and I just have so many other things to do now and so finishing this car off is not an immediate option so work has now currently ceased on it but hey, what a fabulous opportunity for someone with some basic mechanical know how and enthusiasm to finish this off. All of the horrible hard work has been done and what is left can and will be enjoyable. I think I am right in saying that there is pretty much everything with the car to finish it including all of the seats etc etc with numerous new parts. As a ps all of the new fuel lines are in (all to BSS standard with ISO 7840 lines etc) with a large stainless Cooney marine fuel tank and the car is also powered up 12v wise again to BSS standard. So, what needs doing? The transfer box needs fitting and all 3 prop shafts will need altering length wise to fit. Brake pipes and calipers need fitting and bleeding (all new calipers and rear disc conversion). Seats and dash need fitting back in and the new heater and wiper motor assemblies need installation and other bits and bobs. Really though if you are a serious potential buyer and this project really 'floats your boat' then come and see me and the car to see if its right for you!
As a big plus, I have a wealth of knowledge on these things and I am more than willing to offer advice when needed.
I have covered most of the build story so far on my enthusiasts Facebook page so please join and take a look at our wonderful world of Amphibious cars!
Copy and paste either of these in FB.......
