Description
Early S3 Caterham, built as a Lotus seven evocation from new parts (back in 1975-78).
Arch motors chassis 67 supplied in December 1975, with most parts supplied new by Caterham, Ford etc to build. I have nearly all the invoices from the 70's for the build parts. It was registered new in 1978 after a rather prolonged build.
Flat floor, short cockpit with Ford axle.
Ford 3 rail gearbox.
Ford 711m Xflow 1700cc engine, built to a high state of tune by Prompt Autos (a Cosworth sub-contractor) with twin Weber 45 dcoes.
The car is as built, but I have swapped the dynamo for a new alternator and fitted a modern starter motor.
Unrestored, a few stone chips, a little mark here and there, not rusty, completely straight and with low ownership: the young man who built the car, his brother and the then myself.
I have recommissioned the car after about 35 years in storage, it has done about 50 miles since recommissioning. The engine was built about 30 years ago and was unused until I refitted it.
This very close to a Lotus seven S3, so its quite a bit more cramped than a Caterham. I can fit in at 6' and size 11's but its a tight fit!
